This week on Channel 4, the show titled “Go Back to Where You Came From” begins, where we accompany six people who are traveling from two of the world’s riskiest cities to the United Kingdom. Their outspoken opinions about immigration will be challenged as they return home.
Divide into pairs of three, groups are dispatched to Mogadishu, Somalia, and Raqqa, Syria. As they navigate migration paths across Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, en route to the UK, they encounter the harsh realities of their journey – either overcrowded camps or the danger of nearby missile attacks.
Could the varying perspectives held by participants evolve as they encounter the reality of life faced by numerous refugees and migrants?

Go Back to Where You Came From cast
Here are the people taking part in Channel 4’s Go Back to Where You Came From:
- Bushra
- Chloe
- Dave
- Jess
- Nathan
- Mathilda
Bushra

Age: 41
Location: Surrey
Job: Business owner
Bushra openly identifies herself as someone candid and strong-minded, favoring honest discussions. She is a mother of three children and the owner of a humble enterprise.
As a descendant of immigrants who made their way to the UK, I found myself yearning to walk in their shoes, to truly understand their journey and experiences.
“I think the closer we can get to the lives of immigrants, the more empathy we can have for them.”
Chloe

Age: 24
Location: Cornwall
Job: Political commentator
Born in Cornwall but currently residing in London, Chloe serves as a political commentator frequently featured on GB News.
As a passionate cinephile, I couldn’t resist the allure of diving deeper into an issue as pressing as immigration in politics. The prospect of gaining valuable insights about this widespread concern, particularly regarding the influx of undocumented individuals, was simply too intriguing to pass up.
Why, after reaching a secure nation, do they choose to board a boat with the intention of traveling to yet another safe destination?
Dave

Age: 35
Location: Nottingham
Job: Content creator
Originally, Dave, who is a single father, had been professionally trained as a chef. However, during the pandemic, he started creating content on TikTok which eventually led him to become a full-time TikTok creator.
Dave, often referred to as a “man of the lads,” hailed from an ancient mining town and resided in a family that held strong views against illegal immigration.
He confessed that at first, he considered the series as somewhat deceptive, but later discovered it was almost an unparalleled chance to explore the globe and grasp various aspects of life.
He mentioned: “I had an opportunity to glimpse another perspective, to understand where these individuals originate and what their lifestyle is like. For me, this experience was about learning.
Jess

Age: 33
Location: Wales
Job: Sports coach
Jess, who is often referred to as the energetic spirit at gatherings, resides in a quaint village situated within Carmarthenshire. She spends her days working as a dedicated sports coach.
When the hotel adjacent to her home was about to be transformed into lodgings for asylum seekers, Jess joined the Stradey Park Hotel demonstrations that persisted for approximately 100 days, ultimately resulting in the hotel retaining its original function.
Speaking about her motivation, Jess shared, “I hadn’t given much thought to immigration until it affected me directly [through the hotel affair]. This piqued my curiosity, and I decided, ‘Yes, I wish to educate myself on this topic.’
Nathan

Age: 32
Location: Barnsley
Job: Business owner
Nathan frequently refers to his dedication towards work, and on occasion, he employs humor as a means to manage stress.
Nathan confessed that he was quite nonchalant regarding the subject of immigration, and his concern was mostly focused on aspects related to how it impacted him personally.
He stated: “I manage a trucking company, and if an immigrant is discovered hidden in one of my trucks, I am penalized with a £10,000 fee. If a group of ten were found, it could lead to financial ruin for me – I might lose my home, my business, everything.
I was curious to learn more about the experiences of immigrants, as it’s easy to overlook the complexities of their journeys when one’s life is primarily confined within the boundaries of their own backyard.
Mathilda

Age: 29
Location: London
Job: Journalist
Mathilda is a multifaceted professional, serving as both a journalist and podcaster. She focuses her work on topics such as immigration, societal issues, and human rights, drawing from her personal experiences in refugee camps following her volunteer stints in Calais and Dunkirk.
Inquired about her motivation, Mathilda explained: “From the onset of my professional journey, initially serving as an aid worker in refugee camps, a deep-rooted passion for addressing the refugee predicament has consumed me. I view this cause as my life’s purpose.
In the end, my career choice led me towards media due to a fundamental issue, notably in Britain, stemming from the spread of incorrect information and a harsh portrayal of the refugee situation. I saw an opportunity for this platform to challenge these misunderstandings.
