On Monday, 3rd February 2025, at 3:45pm: This past weekend, Tony Huynh, the director of MultiVersus, shared an announcement on various social platforms regarding the end of the game’s season and its upcoming closure.
In there, he expresses several key ideas. Despite being disappointed with the results, he is thankful for the chance that Warner Bros. offered him, and extends his gratitude towards all the different owners of the intellectual properties whose characters were depicted.
Huynh regrets not being able to work on all the characters that were requested, but he guarantees that the last duo, Lola Bunny and Aquaman, are truly impressive.
Additionally, he doesn’t shy away from mentioning offensive remarks and communications they’ve encountered following the recent announcement.
Huynh states that he understands everyone is struggling with this situation, including every team member at Player First Games, but he feels compelled to speak up: while you’re entitled to your opinions and thoughts, making threats goes beyond acceptable boundaries.
I truly wish you could pause for a moment and understand that we’re going through a very sorrowful period as a team. I’m deeply grieving over our defeat in the game. None of us desired such an ending, and it wasn’t due to a lack of concern or hard work on anyone’s part.
He concludes by expressing gratitude to all for participating, making it possible for our shared vision to materialize, albeit for a shorter duration than we hoped.
Update #1 [Fri 31st Jan 2025, 2:30pm]:
As I’ve heard from the grapevine, the devs at Player First Games have made it official – Season 5 is set to be the final chapter of updates for MultiVersus. So, let’s make these remaining battles count!
Additionally, it’s important to note that when Season 5 ends, you won’t be able to play the game online anymore, and it will be taken down from all digital marketplaces.
Season 5 of our game starts on February 4th and wraps up on May 30th, introducing two new playable characters: Aquaman and Lola Bunny. These additions were widely anticipated in rumors. All the content introduced in Season 5 can be obtained through gameplay.
MultiVersus will stay active online until the season concludes on May 30th. After that date, you’ll only be able to play it offline. To carry on playing without an internet connection, you’ll need to log in during Season 5, at which point your local save data will be generated, enabling you to preserve your gaming progress.
After the 30th of May, it won’t be possible to download MultiVersus from the PlayStation Store or any other digital marketplaces.
Effective today, 31st January, the developer has made it clear that all real-money transactions within the microtransactions have been deactivated. Players still have the option to utilize any leftover Gleamium or character tokens until Season 5 concludes, but they will no longer be able to make additional purchases in this regard.
The blog post on the MultiVersus website expresses a heartfelt gratitude towards each and every player and supporter who has participated in or shown support for MultiVersus, emphasizing their utmost appreciation.
Everyone at Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games has put their whole heart and passion into creating this game. We’ll always appreciate the amazing backing from the MultiVersus community during our development process.
It’s unfortunate to witness another multiplayer game approaching its final chapter, as the dwindling number of players suggested that this day might come.

A fresh buzz is circulating regarding the free-to-play brawler from WB Games, MultiVersus, and it doesn’t seem promising.
According to a well-known source who frequently leaks game details, the upcoming Season 5 could potentially be the last one if its performance is not satisfactory.
They assert that they received this information from a highly reliable source, characterizing Season 5 as a desperate attempt by MultiVersus.
In February, we can expect the seasonal update for MultiVersus, bringing fresh faces like new fighters, battlefields, and cosmetic items to revitalize the game. At this point, the identities of the upcoming playable characters remain uncertain, but there’s buzz surrounding Aquaman and Lola Bunny as potential additions.
Initially, MultiVersus underwent an extended beta phase, during which it garnered maximum interest among players. After removing the game from active service to prepare for its formal debut, it was launched in May 2024. However, since then, it has been facing challenges in maintaining its initial player base.
According to Warner Bros., the game is currently experiencing lower-than-expected sales, as indicated by the relatively small number of players (336) on Steam at this moment.
It’s not entirely unexpected that WB Games might be scaling back their support for MultiVersus, given the situation. If the rumors are correct, Season 5 could be a deciding factor – let’s cross our fingers and hope it injects some new energy into the game.
