In the event that the DC Universe franchise continues for an extended period, it’s reasonable to anticipate that Man-Bat might be featured. Recently, DCU creator James Gunn hinted at Man-Bat’s potential involvement in a post on Bluesky, responding to a fan’s question about the absence of Man-Bat in Creature Commandos. “I’d be disheartened if we never see MB in the DCU,” Gunn wrote. This comment has sparked discussions among fans about which Man-Bat storyline might be adapted for the screen and how they would like to see the character portrayed. Furthermore, it fuels fan speculation that Batman may make an appearance in the DCU more swiftly than expected.
The initial discussion revolved around a supporter interpreting Gunn’s interview as hinting at Man-Bat appearing in Creature Commandos, yet it turned out that Man-Bat wasn’t included in the final lineup. However, Gunn confirmed that Man-Bat was among the numerous characters he contemplated for the series. Moreover, Gunn expressed his personal fondness for this character. Although he didn’t specify when or where, he made it clear that he plans to incorporate Man-Bat into the narrative somehow in the future.
In the creation process, Man-Bat was not necessarily included, but he was among several characters under consideration. Admittedly, it would be disheartening if we didn’t get to see Man-Bat in the DC Universe.

In 1970, Dr. Robert Kirkland Langstrom, more commonly known as Man-Bat, debuted as Batman’s adversary. Originally a zoologist, he was fascinated by the sonar capabilities of bats and developed methods to transfer these abilities to humans. However, his research took an unexpected turn when he decided to experiment on himself, leading to a transformation into a half-human, half-bat creature. This transformation not only made him semi-wild but also diminished his intelligence.
Over time, I’ve had periods of clarity and kindness that have made me a short-term collaborator with Batman and other DC heroes. I’ve been entwined in significant tales involving Ra’s al Ghul and the League of Assassins, and in modern comics, I was one of the inaugural members of the new Justice League Dark squad. Additionally, Man-Bat has been brought to life on screen before, appearing in shows like Batman: The Animated Series, The New Batman Adventures, Batman Beyond, The Batman, Beware the Batman, Harley Quinn, and even an episode of Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?
As a passionate movie enthusiast, I’m eagerly speculating about where we might first encounter Man-Bat in the DCU. The upcoming series, “Clayface,” set for release on September 11th, 2026, seems like the most promising candidate at this moment. Given the crowded cast of “Superman” and the uncertain prospects of “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” “Clayface” appears to be the best fit.
Following “Clayface” are “The Authority,” then “The Brave and the Bold,” and “Swamp Thing.” These could potentially provide suitable environments for Man-Bat, but as of now, they don’t have confirmed release dates. On the TV front, it seems unlikely that we’ll see Man-Bat in “Lanterns,” but there’s a possibility that he could join the rogues gallery in “Waller.” However, his appearance in any of these is still speculation at this point.
This year, we might get a better understanding of the style in the DC Universe, as it’s set to be more apparent with the release of the first DCU movie featuring Superman, scheduled for July 11th, 2025.
