Underrated Side Characters Shine in Solo Leveling Season 2

The second season of “Solo Leveling” is now focusing on the Hunters Guild Gate Arc, in which Jinwoo becomes part of the mining crew within the Hunters Guild – Korea’s most powerful guild led by S-Rank Hunter Choi Jongin. Haein Cha, another S-Rank hunter, is also a member of this elite team, adding extraordinary strength to any operation she takes part in. So far, Jinwoo has been limited to raiding C-Rank or lower gates during his career as a Hunter. After retesting, he must wait for three days before his upgrade to S-Rank is officially confirmed. During this time, Jinwoo maintains a low profile within the mining team, observing the types of monsters that higher-level gates contain.

In addition, he encounters Haein Cha for the first time. Meanwhile, as Jinwoo maintains a quiet demeanor, the strike team under Kihoon Son’s leadership faces difficulties on the following day. A band of formidable Orcs emerge before them, a group of monsters that the strike team is unequipped to handle. Overwhelmed by their numbers, the strike team’s fate was sealed. Fortunately, unseen by all, Jinwoo lends a hand to them in their time of need. However, the real challenges are set to unfold in Season 2 Episode 6 of Solo Leveling. Yet, as the narrative progresses, the underestimated character receives the recognition they truly deserve in the anime.

Solo Leveling Season 2 Is Living to the Studio’s Expectations Concerning the Side Characters

In the second season of “Solo Leveling,” producer Sota Furuhashi’s expectations are being met. As revealed in an interview by Aniplex’s official YouTube account, Furahishi stated that while the main character’s growth continues in season two, there will also be a focus on the development of supporting characters and a more comprehensive exploration of the world of “Solo Leveling.” This means fans can expect a broader perspective of the series in its second season.

In May 2024, the interview featuring Furuhashi discussing his ambitions for the upcoming season was posted. One common critique of the “Solo Leveling” series among anime enthusiasts revolves around its main character-centric narrative, with side characters playing minimal roles in the storyline. Following the completion of the first season, the animation studio acknowledged this criticism and aimed to give more focus to the supporting characters for the subsequent seasons. It can be confidently asserted that the second season of the anime is following the trajectory they envisioned.

In the Season 2 Episode 5 of “Solo Leveling,” the focus shifts more towards Strike Squad B compared to the original comic. Instead of showing Kihoon’s fear upon encountering a High Orc as in the manhwa, the anime portrays him with a steadier demeanor, displaying leadership qualities. Despite facing adversaries far stronger than himself, and when others are hesitant, his bravery sets an example for his team. This courage instills fighting spirit among his comrades. Additionally, noteworthy performances are delivered by the entire squad, with A-Rank Hunters Gina and Lee Bora standing out particularly.
