Civilization 7 Creators Warn Longtime Players Not to Ignore One Feature

As a diehard gamer who’s been spinning the wheels of Sid Meier’s Civilization 6 for nearly a decade now, I’ve seen it expand its reach from PC to consoles and mobile devices. Time has flown by so fast that even a fresh face in Civ 6 can be considered a veteran of this epic strategy series. With whispers of Civilization 7 buzzing on the horizon, the old-timers might be tempted to dive straight in without a tutorial. But Firaxis Games advises against it, suggesting we still brush up on our skills before setting sail on the next grand adventure.

In the recently released Developer Diary #8 for Civilization 7, titled “Victories & Post-Launch”, Firaxis shares valuable information and advice on victory conditions as well as their post-launch plans. Furthermore, they offer guidance on various aspects of the game, such as its tutorial and advisors feature. When you initially start playing, the tutorial will be activated automatically to provide helpful tips and explanations for different parts of the game. Even though the Civilization series has been active since 1991, experienced players may believe they don’t need the tutorial anymore. However, Firaxis suggests using a tutorial during your first campaign because many of its systems have undergone updates and revisions.

When you start playing Civilization 7 for the first time, we’ll activate the Tutorial mode to guide you. The Tutorial is filled with helpful tips and explanations that pop up when you encounter something new for the first time. Even if you’re familiar with past Civ games, considering the numerous updates and revisions in our game systems, we highly advise using the Tutorial during your initial full campaign through the three Ages.

In any video game, including Civilization 7, players will eventually become proficient or ‘master’ the game. However, Firaxis suggests that top-tier players may find value in keeping one particular feature: the “Only Warnings” setting when disabling tutorials. This option allows advisors, in-game characters offering guidance to progress your civilization, to only speak up during significant impending setbacks.

As you become proficient with enough systems, consider turning off the Tutorial mode. However, I recommend switching on the ‘Only Warnings’ setting instead. This feature enables your advisors to alert you if your empire is at risk of a significant reversal. Our team at Firaxis, who are experts in this game, even play with these warnings activated!

On February 11, “Civilization VII” will be available for purchase on PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S at a cost of $69.99. If you’d like early access, the Deluxe Edition priced at $99.99 offers that along with the Tecumseh and Shawnee Pack, additional Deluxe Content, and Crossroads of the World Collection DLC. For die-hard Civilization fans, there’s the Founders Edition for $129.99, which comes complete with everything from the Deluxe Edition, the Founders Content Pack, and the Right to Rule Collection DLC.
