The Elbaf storyline in “One Piece” is steadily revealing one secret after another. Instead of just combat, this arc delves deep into the series’ lore, shedding light on the enigmas surrounding Nika and the true past of the world. Following their confrontation with Kizaru and Gorosei at Egghead, the crew immediately set course for the legendary Kingdom of Giants. Originally intending to escape to Elbaf before the fight started, they were instead cornered by the Marines. Simultaneously, the struggle was accompanied by a broadcast from Vegapunk, which disclosed vital information about the Void Century. However, this only scratches the surface of the truth.
In the beginning of the Elbaf storyline, we find two high-ranking warriors, Shamrock Figarland and his subordinate Gunko, venturing into the Underworld to negotiate with Loki. Their goal is to persuade him to join the Holy Knights, a position typically reserved for the World Nobles. Despite Loki’s immense power, he rejects their offer. The Elbaf Prince, however, harbors deep animosity towards the Celestial Dragons and refuses any collaboration. In One Piece Chapter 1137, Shamrock’s appearance and his position as Commander of the Holy Knights are revealed. Contrary to popular belief, Shamrock has not replaced Garling in his role.
In One Piece, though Shamrock is a “Commander,” or “Danchou,” in the God Knights, it was Garling who held the title of “Supreme Commander” (Saikou Shireikan). These roles are distinct from one another, and Shamrock hasn’t taken over Garling’s position.

Shamrock Figarland Hasn’t Assumed Garling’s Role in the Holy Knights
As per well-known One Piece theorist and YouTube personality Artur, “Lost in Translation: Shamrock is a ‘Danchou,’ or commander within the God Knights, whereas Garling was introduced as the highest-ranking officer, the ‘Saikou Shireikan’ of the God Knights. It’s important to note that these roles are distinct and Shamrock has not taken over Garling’s position.
In Chapter 1125, it’s Saturn who meets his end at the hands of Imu, and Garling assumes the position of the new Divine Scientist and Warrior of Defense. The Five Elders hold supreme power in their realm, and with a impressive track record as a recruit, Garling is no stranger to success. Prior to joining the Gorosei council, Garling held the prestigious title of Supreme Commander of the Holy Knights, an elite force from the Holy Land Mary Geoise. He wields the authority to decide the fate of the World’s Nobles. In a past event, Garling carried out the execution of Saint Mjosgard for his alliance with the Fishmen and assaulting another World Noble.
In the translated manga, it seems Shamrock may have assumed Garling’s position, yet their hierarchy remains distinct, and the identity of Garling’s successor is uncertain. Despite being Garling’s son, a Holy Knight like his father, Shamrock appears to be in command; however, there’s someone above him within the ranks. The intricacies surrounding Shamrock and the Holy Knights are still shrouded in mystery. They are widely regarded as the most formidable group of antagonists in One Piece, given their intimidating presence even to the Revolutionary Army. Dragon, in Chapter 1083, foretells that the true war will commence only when the Holy Knights are neutralized.
Gunko demonstrates her power using her Dual-Arrow Fruit, whereas Shamrock wields a sword, revealing his status as a swordsman similar to Shanks and Garling. Despite initially inviting Loki into their group, their intentions are sinister. Shamrock aims to overthrow Elbaf and force them into submission under the World Government’s rule.
