In the upcoming movie, “The Fantastic Four: First Footsteps,” fans have been given a sneak peek at the legendary Marvel villain, The Devourer of Worlds. This first teaser trailer introduces the main characters of the Fantastic Four: Reed Richards (played by Pedro Pascal), also known as Mister Fantastic; Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby), who becomes the Invisible Woman; Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn), transformed into Human Torch; and Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) taking on the role of Thing.
However, as is typical for a Marvel superhero film, there’s always a formidable enemy lurking in the shadows to challenge our heroes. In this case, it appears that Galactus will be the antagonist for “The Fantastic Four: First Footsteps.” Based on the trailer, the movie seems to stay true to Galactus’ comic book origins.
In the trailer for “The Fantastic Four: First Steps“, Galactus debuts at approximately 1 minute and 27 seconds. A sweeping aerial view of New York City reveals Galactus’ ominous silhouette looming over Manhattan. His distinctive helmet, with the two sidepieces visible, is discernible in the shadow. A subsequent scene, set around the Statue of Liberty, brings Galactus into full light from behind, further emphasizing his colossal size compared to the iconic statue. This adheres to Marvel Studios’ decision to maintain Galactus’ authentic comic book appearance.
As a die-hard comic book enthusiast and movie critic, I can’t help but feel a thrill at the prospect of Galactus making his grand return to the silver screen in “The Fantastic Four: First Steps.” After all, it’s been quite some time since we last saw him in 2007’s “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer,” where he was depicted as a colossal purple cosmic entity – a stark contrast from the fearsome world-devourer we know and love. Now, with Ralph Ineson stepping into Galactus’ imposing boots, the question on everyone’s lips is: how will they handle Ineson’s likeness in this new adaptation? Will he lend his voice to a primarily CGI creation, or will it be an intriguing blend, akin to the way Mark Ruffalo and Josh Brolin have brought Hulk and Thanos to life, respectively? The anticipation is palpable!
The summary for “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” hints at an impending confrontation between Galactus and Marvel’s initial superhero team. In a colorful setting reminiscent of the 1960s yet futuristic, Marvel Studios’ “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” introduces us to Marvel’s First Family: Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm/Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm/Human Torch (Joseph Quinn), and Ben Grimm/The Thick (Ebon Moss-Bachrach). Faced with their greatest challenge yet, they struggle to reconcile their heroic duties with the power of their familial ties. They must shield Earth from a destructive cosmic entity known as Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic messenger, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). To make matters worse, Galactus’ plan to consume the planet and all its inhabitants becomes deeply personal for our heroes.
Under the guidance of director Matt Shakman, the movie titled “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” features Pedro Pascal portraying Reed Richards / Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm / Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm / Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm / Thing. The ensemble also includes Julia Garner as Shalla-Bal / Silver Surfer and Ralph Ineson as Galactus, alongside Paul Walter Hauser, Natasha Lyonne, and John Malkovich.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps arrives in theaters on July 25, 2025.
