As an observer, I’m excited to share that a new anime series is set to make a significant impact on Netflix’s already impressive collection. Anime fans can look forward to “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End,” which will soon join the ranks of popular titles like “Jujutsu Kaisen,” “Naruto,” “Spy x Family,” and “Dandadan.” Additionally, Netflix’s own original anime series such as “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners,” “Blue Box,” and “Sakamoto Days” will continue to captivate audiences. However, the anticipation grows for this upcoming series, as it seems poised to outshine them all based on a recently discovered placeholder card on Netflix’s browser portal. Although the release date is yet to be announced, the sight of this placeholder card offers an encouraging glimpse into what’s coming next.
2023 saw the release of “Freiren: Beyond Journey’s End,” an anime adaption from the manga by Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe, produced by Madhouse. The first season spanned over 28 episodes and a second season is now being developed. This series has gained immense popularity among fans and critics alike, earning a flawless 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes and securing the top spot with an outstanding 9.31 rating on My Anime List, surpassing even the acclaimed “Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood,” which holds a 9.10 rating.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Is Coming to Netflix
It’s said that “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End” will be streaming on Netflix soon, with sources like Danotaz Media on X sharing images suggesting a March 1st release date. The first season is set to premiere on Netflix, but it will still be accessible on Crunchyroll as well. “Frieren” is a unique mix of genres, combining historical fantasy, action, hints of romance, and everyday life experiences into a single, captivating storyline. The series revolves around Frieren, an elven mage who was once part of the legendary group that defeated the Demon King and saved the world. Since elves live for thousands of years, the group’s existence continues beyond their epoch-making adventure. Around 80 years after their journey, Frieren starts reminiscing about the decade-long quest that accounted for less than 0.01% of her life.
The series delves into events that transpire post the grand adventure which serves as the central plot in many fantasy tales. A century later, Frieren finds a new mission – to tutor Fern, an up-and-coming mage apprentice from her old party. As they embark on their journey together, they gather allies, vanquish beasts, and aid villagers, all while Frien begins to ponder over her past existence. The series boasts impressive, visually stunning action sequences, but its heart lies in reminiscence and cherishing each moment of life, no matter how trivial it may initially seem.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2 Is On the Way
Due to overwhelming praise for Frieren from viewers, it was nearly certain that a second season would follow. The production of Frieren‘s Season 2 was confirmed in September 2024. The upcoming season was announced with a short teaser trailer and two breathtaking posters. One poster showcased Frieren, Fern, and Stark’s equipment on a tree overlooking the city of Äußerst, where Season 1 concluded. The other poster took fans back to the past, featuring Frieren’s original party consisting of Himmel the Hero, Eisen the dwarf, and Heiter, the tipsy priest.
So far, there’s no announced date for the second season of “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End,” but fans are keeping their fingers crossed for updates in the near future since “Frieren” has been officially included in the lineup for AnimeJapan 2025. Here’s hoping we’ll see a trailer for Season 2 and an estimated release window soon!
