Squid Game Season 3 Teases Return of Its Worst Characters

Get ready for the long-awaited return of “Squid Game” on Netflix this Summer, as we approach the final chapter of its thrilling third season! The hit series is hinting at the reappearance of some of its most menacing characters before wrapping up its storyline. After an exhilarating second season that aired towards the end of 2024, “Squid Game” skyrocketed to become one of Netflix’s most popular seasons ever. The reception for Season 2 was overwhelmingly positive, with both critics and fans expressing their approval – some even suggesting it surpassed the acclaim received in the first season.

One aspect that greatly improved in Squid Game Season 2 was the absence of the VIP characters, who were a controversial addition in the highly acclaimed first season. Their involvement in betting on the games felt disconnected and detracted from the viewing experience. Therefore, their absence in the new season was a refreshing change. It’s somewhat unexpected, then, that Squid Game is hinting at their return for the final season.

Is Squid Game Bringing Back the VIPs?

In one of the initial glimpses of Squid Game Season 3 revealed by Netflix, the Front Man can undeniably be seen in the VIP room, which was present in the first season. However, due to the surrounding area being somewhat blurred, it’s uncertain if the VIPs are with him inside the room. This is a tantalizing hint for the upcoming episodes that may potentially pose a threat.

The introduction of the VIPs in the initial season had an impact on viewers’ perception of the series, as their debut episode appeared to undermine the goodwill and world-building established throughout the rest of it. If the final season decides to reintroduce them, it could signify a step backwards in the narrative progression.

While it’s true that the return of the VIPs in the final season of Squid Game could have its advantages, if they receive their due consequences. Initially, viewers were upset to see Gi-Hun in a league far below these VIPs during the first season. Even though he took part in all the games, he couldn’t tackle the root issue. However, after witnessing his efforts at the end of Season 2, it seems like there might be a bigger scheme for the games. If Gi-Hun succeeds in dismantling the games, it would logically lead to the downfall of the VIPs as well. This return wouldn’t carry the same negative impact as their first appearance.

When Does Squid Game Season 3 Come Out?

We’re excitedly counting down the days until we discover the conclusion of Squid Game, as Season 3 is set to premiere globally on Netflix on June 27th. The number of episodes for this final season remains a secret, but with the second season’s end, there’s plenty to resolve. The series creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, has hinted that he initially conceived the story for both Seasons 2 and 3 as one continuous arc.

Initially, I had intended to tell this story over roughly eight to nine episodes. However, upon completing the story, it stretched beyond 10 episodes, which I felt was too much for one season. To provide a proper conclusion to Gi-Hun’s storyline, he ended the second season on a cliffhanger and planned to wrap up this arc in the second season itself, before starting the third season with fresh developments.
