Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends Z-A Reaffirmed for 2025 Launch

2021 promises to be a significant year for Nintendo, given the anticipated launch of the Switch 2 and the buzz surrounding potential new games. Notably, the original Switch has two eagerly awaited exclusives in store for fans – “Metroid Prime 4: Beyond” and “Pokemon Legends Z-A”. During a meeting with investors (translation via DeepL), Nintendo’s president, Shuntaro Furukawa, reassured that these games are still on track for release this year.

Alongside this, Furukawa emphasized that not only will the company persist in releasing appealing software whenever possible, but he also underscored the significance of exclusive software for the successful debut of new hardware on the Switch platform.

“Keeping this thought in mind, we plan to explore different strategies to distribute our games across numerous customers via the Nintendo Switch and potentially its successor, the Nintendo Switch 2. This could imply that certain titles might be accessible on both platforms.”

We’re looking at ways to make our games playable by many people using the Nintendo Switch and possibly its future version, the Nintendo Switch 2. Since Pokemon Legends Z-A is coming out for these systems, it seems likely that it will also be available on the next console.”

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is currently exclusive to the Nintendo Switch, but it’s not unreasonable to speculate that a future iteration of the Switch (let’s call it Switch 2) might also get this game. While rumors about certain original Switch games receiving upgrades for the potential Switch 2 have yet to be substantiated, it’s worth noting that Nintendo has already confirmed that the Switch 2 will be backward compatible with previous games (with some conditions applied).

Even though there may be new developments coming soon, current Nintendo Switch owners don’t have to worry about being quickly outdated. Keep an eye out for further announcements regarding the Switch 2, particularly during its official direct presentation in April.
