In an interview with egmr.ru, the producer of Captain America: Brave New World, Nate Moore, discussed how the film’s inclusion of adamantium foreshadows the arrival of the X-Men in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. When asked if the presence of adamantium was more about emphasizing the movie’s main themes or hinting at future events, Moore responded that it was more about global power struggles, which he believes is the essence of this film. Additionally, Moore mentioned that Marvel Studios is strategically integrating X-Men elements before their official introduction to the franchise.
As we move towards incorporating the X-Men into our world, we want to ensure a smooth transition by gradually introducing concepts, so it doesn’t feel overwhelming like drinking from a firehose. For instance, we’ve confirmed Namor as a mutant and hinted at Ms. Marvel potentially being one too, after her show ends. Our aim is to subtly plant seeds for these characters, making the storyline feel organic and consistent, rather than suddenly introducing them in the midst of our current narrative.
The film rights for the X-Men series transitioned to Disney after their purchase of 21st Century Fox in 2019. Since then, some X-Men characters have made appearances in specific Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) productions like “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” and “Deadpool & Wolverine.” Nevertheless, an official MCU film featuring the X-Men has yet to be announced, as Marvel is currently prioritizing other projects such as “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” and “Avengers: Doomsday.
In November 2024, Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios, mentioned that the X-Men are vital for the future of the MCU. However, he hinted that fans will have to be patient and watch until after the release of “Avengers: Secret Wars” in 2027 before they can see the team making their move. Meanwhile, last year saw the debut of the praised animated series “X-Men ’97” from Marvel Studios Animation.
Building up to a major event gradually, as Marvel did with Thanos in the Infinity Saga, is a smart move; they subtly introduced him through brief appearances before making him central to Avengers: Infinity War. This gradual introduction made the battle against him feel like a natural progression of existing storylines. Similarly, even though the X-Men are already well-known from the Fox films, being patient and strategically teasing their existence and adamantium will keep viewers excited and eager for their MCU debut. When they finally take center stage in an MCU film, it should feel organic, just as intended by Moore.
As we eagerly await Marvel’s first authentic X-Men film, which is yet to come for several years, it’ll be intriguing to observe what hints they may drop during the rest of the Multiverse Saga. Balancing the needs of the current narrative with setting up future events will be crucial. For instance, the introduction of adamantium in Captain America: Brave New World is a good example – it’s connected to X-Men history but also fits well within a story about governments striving for global power. Any hints towards X-Men should follow a similar pattern, subtly introducing crucial aspects before the movie premieres in theaters.
