As a movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that starting this Sunday, the 9th of February, at 9pm sharp, ITV1 (and STV in Scotland) will unveil the long-awaited Season 6 of “Unforgotten”. And So, mark your calendars and get ready for another gripping journey into the past.

The series was renewed back in April 2023 after the season 5 finale had aired on ITV1.

As a dedicated cinephile, it was no surprise when I heard the news about the renewal of that gripping crime drama. After all, the premiere episode of season 5 alone was the most-viewed program on ITV in 2023, eventually securing the top spot for dramas not only on ITV1 but also on ITVX the following year.

With an average of more than 8 million viewers for its fifth season, it’s clear that a significant number of people are eagerly waiting to find out the storyline for season 6.

Unforgotten season 6 cast

In the upcoming Season 6, Sinéad Keenan as DCI Jessica ‘Jessie’ James and Sanjeev Bhaskar as DI Sunny Khan will be back on screen. This means viewers can look forward to watching how their initially bumpy partnership gradually smooths out and evolves into a genuinely warm working relationship.

The reunion of their investigative squad is imminent, bringing back key members such as Jordan Long as Detective Superintendent Murray Boulting, Carolina Main as Detective Superintendent Fran Lingley, Pippa Nixon as Detective Constable Karen Willets, and Georgia Mackenzie as pathologist Dr Leanne Balcombe, to delve into more cold cases.

Additionally, it has been announced that some new members will join the cast, including Victoria Hamilton from Cobra and MyAnna Buring from The Responder. We’ll also see debut performances by Max Fairley and Elham Elas in these roles.

In the course of this intriguing series, I often encounter an extraordinary rotating cast of talented individuals, each playing characters entangled in the case at hand. The plot unfolds with the introduction of Melinda Ricci, a vibrant Irish television commentator known for her outspoken nature and fearless opinions. Then there’s Martin ‘Marty’ Baines, a resident of Deal, Kent, who happens to be autistic and lives with his mother, Dot. We also meet Asif Syed, an Afghan residing in the UK, fluent in English, preparing for his citizenship test. Lastly, we’re introduced to Juliet Cooper, a history lecturer and head of faculty at a prestigious university in central London.

In their own spheres, these characters appear independent, but they share a common history that tangles them together. It falls upon Jess, Sunny, and their crew to untangle these threads from the past in order to discover the truth behind the unsolved murder, and ultimately identify the person responsible for it.

What is Unforgotten season 6 about?

As a dedicated cinephile, I’ve eagerly anticipated this new season of “Unforgotten” for close to a decade now, as per the vision of its brilliant creator, Chris Lang.

Regarding the commencement of filming on the upcoming season, Lang expressed: “I’m tremendously thrilled to soon begin filming the sixth installment of Unforgotten. This story has been slowly developing for almost eight years, ever since June 23rd, 2016, when our nation appeared to divide in half.

In simple terms, “Today, it appears that the UK, as well as the global community, is more divided than ever. Series six aims to explore how we arrived at this point in history, but more crucially, it seeks to provide insights on where we might be headed in the future.

In the summary for season 6, it’s stated that remains believed to be human are found at Whitney Marsh. As a result, Jess and Sunny are summoned to investigate, forcing them to abandon their initial plans for the night, causing some displeasure from Jess’s husband Steve.

Based on Dr. Balcombe’s detailed examination of the spine, it appears that the remains are quite fresh, and her hypothesis suggests the body was placed there in pieces.

Using this information, Jess and Sunny start exploring the surroundings, thinking that other remains might not be located too distant from here.

In every one of the upcoming six episodes, Lang is responsible for the scriptwriting, while Andy Wilson (known for Ripper Street and Spooks) will take charge as the lone director, having directed all 30 episodes in the past five seasons.
