It seems that Roxas’ summer break is extending, as there’s still a lot to unfold about him in the Kingdom Hearts series. This franchise has introduced some truly memorable characters from both Disney and Square Enix, but none can rival the impact of its original characters. While Sora has been the main character in most Kingdom Hearts games, Riku and Roxas have made significant appearances in their respective titles. However, it’s reasonable to anticipate that Roxas might take on a more substantial role than we currently imagine when it comes to Kingdom Hearts 4. To fully understand this, let’s revisit Roxas’ past and delve into his Heartless deeds, whether they be for better or worse.
To fully grasp Roxas’ significance in Sora’s narrative, we need to delve into where their story first unfolded: Kingdom Hearts. When Sora released his heart with the Keyblade to save Kairi, he transformed into a Heartless, and Roxas was born as a Nobody. Although Sora regained his original form, Roxas could co-exist alongside him, but without the memories of the main character. This detail wasn’t revealed until Kingdom Hearts 2, yet Roxas has been present with Sora in some capacity throughout the series.
In the finale of Kingdom Hearts 3 Re: Mind, any hint about Roxas appearing in Kingdom Hearts 4 would be revealed. During the Keyblade Graveyard sequence, Roxas reappears as a replica, enabling him to coexist with Sora once more. Following Sora’s closure of Kingdom Hearts, Roxas is granted the ability to live his teenage life. However, Sora’s time in the real world gets truncated. Given that Roxas has played a significant role in Sora’s life, it seems probable that there will be an opportunity for him to assist in bringing Roxas back from Quadratum.
In Kingdom Hearts 4, we’re curious about Roxas’ role, as his friends Hayner, Pence, and Olette delve into his memories to locate Sora’s whereabouts. It’s worth noting that the world of Quadratum is unfamiliar to Roxas (or so it seems). Interestingly, Roxas remains connected to Sora, serving as a conduit between our main character and the “real” world. Although it appears that Riku might be the one to find Sora, Roxas could potentially play a crucial part in maintaining the connection between the real world and the former one.
In “Kingdom Hearts 4,” new characters are joining the “Lost Masters” storyline, potentially reducing Roxas’s role in this chapter. Despite receiving a content ending where he lives with his friends, Roxas’s strong admiration for Sora makes it unlikely that he would miss an opportunity to assist in finding him.
In terms of crucial figures returning for Kingdom Hearts 4, details are scant, but there’s a strong possibility that our dual-keyblade-wielding character might reappear, potentially taking on a more prominent role in the forthcoming storyline or offering support.
