EastEnders announces iconic episode repeats with new intros from key stars – and huge classic box set

EastEnders is getting ready for its 40th anniversary festivities, which are coming up soon – and they’ve just revealed that they plan to honor this milestone by re-airing some classic episodes along with fresh commentaries from notable cast members.

On BBC Four this coming Sunday, the 16th of February, you can catch some intriguing episodes from our archives such as Den and Angie (from 1986), Sharongate (1994), Pat and Frank’s affair (2000), and Yolande and Patrick (recently aired). Enjoy the journey down memory lane!

During these shows, celebrities like Ross Kemp, Pam St Clement, Angela Wynter, and Rudolph Walker will share memories about notable storylines in short 15-minute segments that will play prior to each classic episode.

Not only are the previously mentioned episodes being rebroadcast on traditional TV, but an extensive collection of past episodes has also been made accessible on BBC iPlayer. Currently, over 50 episodes can be streamed instantly on this catch-up platform, with selections ranging from 1986 to 2008.

Yesterday, the BBC officially announced the release dates for two upcoming 40th anniversary documentary specials. On Monday, 17th February, a one-hour retrospective titled “EastEnders: 40 Years on the Square” will air on BBC One. The following day, “EastEnders Revealed: The Lock In,” a behind-the-scenes show, is scheduled to broadcast on BBC Three.

Absolutely, the highlight of our anniversary celebration will be fresh installments featuring some exciting developments. Notably, the comeback of Kemp reprising his role as Grant Mitchell, and an engaging live episode where viewers get to decide Denise’s romantic fate.

A special, one-hour long anniversary show will be broadcast on the 19th of February, prior to when fans can begin voting to decide who Denise should date: Jack or Ravi.

The vote will close at 7:10pm the next day, before the hour-long live episode starts at 7:30pm.
