Lupita Nyong’o, known for her role as Nakia in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, discusses the rumors about Black Panther 3, particularly concerning Denzel Washington‘s possible casting and the speculation surrounding T’Challa’s recasting. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, she expressed skepticism regarding these rumors, stating, “I won’t believe it until Ryan himself confirms it, because what if Denzel has a role but I don’t?” She also mentioned that she would prefer to remain humble and uninformed until director Ryan Coogler officially addresses the matter.
Regarding speculation about another actor taking on the role of T’Challa, Nyong’o shared that it’s not something she actively considers. ” frankly, I don’t spend mental energy contemplating a future over which I have no influence,” she stated. “Therefore, we’ll just have to wait and see. Once more information is available, we’ll be informed.
As of December 2024, I’m thrilled to share that Marvel has confirmed the production of Black Panther 3! However, a release date hasn’t been set yet. This exciting news came after some time had passed since Denzel Washington revealed that Ryan Coogler had penned a role in Black Panther 3 specifically for him. As of now, Washington isn’t officially attached to the project, but producer Nate Moore has expressed Marvel’s enthusiasm about potentially collaborating with the talented actor.
Recently, there were reports suggesting Marvel plans to replace T’Challa, the character previously played by Chadwick Boseman in the Infinity Saga. However, in an exclusive chat with egmr.ru, Moore debunked these rumors. According to him, “Black Panther 3” is still in its infancy, as Ryan Coogler finishes work on his upcoming movie, “Sinners,” which premieres this April.
Discussing the possibility of replacing T’Challa in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has been a contentious topic for quite some time. After Chadwick Boseman’s untimely demise in 2020, it was decided to alter Black Panther: Wakanda Forever into a tribute dedicated to the actor, emphasizing his lasting impact as T’Challa who perished within the universe. Since then, there have been debates about whether recasting T’Challa would be more fitting given his significance in the broader Marvel narrative. Initially, it was reported that the filmmakers would opt for a variant of T’Challa from another Universe, which seems like an intelligent choice as it enables Marvel to reintroduce such an essential character while preserving Wakanda Forever’s emotional narrative. The new actor chosen to play T’Challa can bring their unique interpretation to the role while paying homage to Boseman’s memorable portrayal.
It seems that Black Panther 3 is not due out for some years yet, but when director Coogler has more time to develop it, we’ll eagerly watch its progress. Regardless of the direction the script takes, it’s hard to envision a third movie without Nakia, who plays a crucial role in the Black Panther series. Whether Black Panther 3 introduces a new T’Challa or focuses on Nakia’s son, there should be an intriguing part for Nakia in the narrative.
