It appears that Square Enix is preparing to introduce another Final Fantasy title on Xbox systems, as per leaker Nate the Hate (via Gaming Leaks and Rumours). If these rumors are true, _Final Fantasy XVI_ will be announced and launched for Xbox Series X|S in spring 2025. The game was initially introduced on PlayStation 5 in 2023 and later released on PC the following year. Given the overwhelmingly positive reception that _Final Fantasy XVI_ received, its arrival on Xbox should bring excitement to many gamers. Expanding the game’s reach could only mean a broader player base, which is always advantageous!
In the game “Final Fantasy XVI”, players assume the character of Clive Rosfield, embarking on an adventure through the freshly discovered land of Valisthea. Clive has won the hearts of many gamers, and recently, he’s also appeared in the Tekken series. Until now, Xbox enthusiasts have only been able to play as Clive through this game. However, if a recent rumor turns out to be true, they might get the chance to control Clive within the next few months on their console.
In the past, Square Enix made several games, including Final Fantasy XVI, exclusive to PlayStation as part of a deal with Sony, where they paid to keep these games temporarily off other platforms. However, it appears that this tactic didn’t work out well for Square Enix, as many of these games failed to meet sales expectations. Last year, the company decided to change its strategy and focus more on multiplatform releases rather than exclusives. Interestingly, this shift in strategy seems to align with a growing partnership between Square Enix and Microsoft, resulting in games like Final Fantasy XIV and Pixel Remasters becoming available on Xbox Series X|S last year.
It seems that Final Fantasy XVI isn’t the only PlayStation exclusive previously thought to be exclusive making its way to Xbox. Additionally, it has been suggested that Final Fantasy VII Remake will eventually be available on Microsoft’s platform this year. The second installment in the remake trilogy, titled Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, is rumored to be released in 2026. Keep in mind that these are just rumors; however, it’s worth mentioning that Nate the Hate has been quite accurate recently. He was the first to reveal the date for the unveiling of the Nintendo Switch 2, so his credibility is strong.
Although Square Enix is putting a greater emphasis on Final Fantasy XVI for Xbox, they are taking the opposite approach with regards to the Nintendo Switch 2. According to Nate the Hate, Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth are being primarily developed for the upcoming Nintendo platform. It’s uncertain if Nintendo users will get to experience Final Fantasy XVI, but Square Enix appears determined to make these games accessible to a wider audience. If Square Enix can successfully bring these games to the new Nintendo system without significant sacrifices, we may see it come to fruition.
