SEGA and Sports Interactive have decided not to proceed with Football Manager 25, instead choosing to concentrate on the upcoming version of Football Manager. The release, initially scheduled for March on platforms like PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Xbox One, Switch, PC, iOS, and Android, has been postponed.

Development Update: Football Manager 25
I’m sorry to inform you that we must postpone the gameplay reveal yet again, a news that may be disheartening considering the previous delays and your excitement about it. We deeply regret any inconvenience caused by this delay. Unfortunately, due to stakeholder compliance concerns related to legal and financial regulations, today was the soonest possible time we could announce this change.
We’ve always been known for offering top-notch games that provide you with endless enjoyable moments, ones that make each second and every penny spent worth it. With the arrival of Football Manager 25, our goal was to develop the most significant technical and visual improvement in the series for years, paving the way for a new era.
Because of numerous obstacles we’ve been transparent about so far, and many more unexpected ones as well, we haven’t managed to meet our goals in several aspects of the game, despite our team’s tireless efforts. Every choice to postpone the launch was made with the goal of bringing the game closer to our ideal state, but as we reached crucial deadlines at the end of the year, it became evident that we wouldn’t reach the necessary quality, even with the extended deadline.
Although several aspects of the game align with our goals, the overall player experience and user interface aren’t up to the mark as they should be. Extensive assessments, including consumer feedback, have shown us a clear path for the game’s evolution, and we’re almost there – but we still have some distance to go before we meet the quality you expect.
Instead of rushing out with “Football Manager 25” as it stands, making adjustments afterward, we believe it’s more appropriate to take our time. Additionally, releasing the game beyond March was not an option for us because it would be late in the football season and might ask too much from players to purchase another game later in the year.
By cancelling the previous project, we’re fully committed to making sure our next rollout lives up to everyone’s expectations in terms of quality. We’ll keep you informed about our progress once we have updates to share.
Appreciate your attention and persistence; we’re now redirecting our energies towards shaping a fresh epoch for “Football Manager”. Thank you!

FAQs
- Does this affect all platforms and versions of Football Manager 25?
- Yes, all versions are cancelled and Football Manager 25 will not be released on any platforms.
- I pre-ordered the game on PC / Mac how do I obtain my refund?
- Pre-purchase orders for Football Manager 25 will automatically be refunded in full if purchased through an official SEGA-approved retailer. Retailers will process refunds in due course, for any enquiries please contact your point of purchase.
- Why didn’t you cancel Football Manager 25 earlier when you opted to delay to March?
- At the time of the decision, based on the data available, it was our strong belief that we could reach our quality target level and deliver a game our players would be happy with, despite the delay. The challenges encountered beyond this point meant we were unable to achieve that.
- An Football Manager 25 update was promised in January. Why the delay in sharing this information?
- As stated above, stakeholder compliance impacted the sharing of information until now which relates to SEGA Sammy Holdings being a publicly traded company.
- Will there be an Football Manager 24 update with 2024 / 2025 season data?
- No. As we said in October when the game was delayed, this is a substantial undertaking and would divert critical resources away from the development of the next release which requires our full focus.
- Will Football Manager 24 remain playable on subscription platforms?
- We are currently in discussions with our various platform partners and licensors and hope to extend our Football Manager 24 agreements. We will provide an update on this in due course.
