Teen Mom’s Amber Portwood Struggles After Split

Love hurts, love scars. And, as Teen Mom‘s Amber Portwood discovered, love wounds and marks.

Months after her partner Gary Wayt vanished following her brother’s wedding in North Carolina, Amber expressed on the February 6th episode of ‘Teen Mom: The Next Chapter’, “I’m not just heartbroken, I’m emotionally shattered. The events and his actions have left deep emotional scars, causing me significant trauma.

In a turn of events that I’ll never forget, it wasn’t just about him proposing to me with my fellow cast members, Catelynn Lowell and Maci Bookout, present, under the watchful eye of cameras—and then vanishing shortly thereafter. Instead, what followed was a prolonged search for him, which concluded when he was spotted over 900 miles away in Oklahoma. However, as the events unfolded, I found myself facing accusations from fans who speculated that I had taken his life.

For four straight days, without rest or nourishment, the 34-year-old shared on the MTV show, he couldn’t sleep or eat, overwhelmed by the news that he was labeled a murderer and believing his fiancé to be deceased. “That’s simply the reality,” he added.

On previous occasions, the mother of 16-year-old Leah (formerly engaged to Gary Shirley) and 6-year-old James (from her relationship with Andrew Glennon), had expressed a similar viewpoint.

On the final episode of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter in September, Amber wept outside her psychiatrist’s office, lamenting, “That day, he just walked away for no apparent reason.” She questioned, “Why am I being targeted? ‘We know Amber murdered him.’ It’s been hard dealing with people accusing me of taking my fiancé’s life.” She expressed, “Can you imagine how it feels to be labeled a murderer?

She went on to say, “For about three to four days, I was faced with the heart-wrenching belief that my fiancé had passed away. During that time, I grappled with intense grief and struggled to understand why such a cruel thing could happen to me. I am currently going through a difficult experience.

The pain was almost as intense as working through the end of their brief romance.

For over fifteen years, she has been managing her bipolar and borderline personality disorders. On the September episode, she expressed being in an unusual mental state she has not experienced before.

Essentially, she explained, “This man shattered me. Previously, I was steady. At present, for the first time in years, I’m not feeling completely okay because a man proposed to me with a ring.

Beyond the bond she imagined for the two of them, she elaborated by saying, “He expressed his desire to become an integral part of my family, including my daughter, aiming for a joyful family life together.

But while Amber may have lost one man, she’s held tight to the number one guy in her life.

Following Andrew’s acquisition of sole legal and primary physical custody of James in 2022 and relocating him to California, Amber expressed on the Feb. 6 episode, “I continued battling for him after he moved to California and persisted in maintaining our relationship.” Today, she added, “My son and I have a bond now. When he gazes at me with his captivating eyes and tells me ‘I love you,’ it feels like pure magic.

So while love hurts, it’s often worth it.

In her own words, Amber described the unique bond she shares with her children as, “There’s no one else in the world who can make you feel that way.” And it seems many other ‘Teen Mom’ cast members are experiencing similar heartwarming emotions as they too have found their significant others. Take a look at which MTV stars have found lasting love.

In the first season of 16 and Pregnant back in 2009, viewers witnessed Catelynn Lowell and her partner, Tyler Baltierra, face a challenging decision – giving their first-born daughter, Carly, up for adoption. After thirteen years as a couple, they tied the knot in August 2015 and have since added three more daughters to their family: Novalee, Vaeda, and Rya.

Despite the lingering sorrow from Carly’s absence, who resides with her adopted parents, Brandon and Teresa Davis, the couple remains resilient in their pursuit of a hopeful future.

In an interview with TopMob News in January 2025, Catelynn expressed that their bond “depends entirely on what she desires.” She added, “If she wishes to foster a relationship with her biological siblings, or even us, great! If not, we get it. Whatever form that connection takes for her is what matters most. It needs to be centered around the adoptee’s preferences.

In the span of fewer than six months after they started dating, viewers witnessed Maci Bookout dealing with an unreliable Ryan Edwards on the show 16 and Pregnant. Despite their engagement, this high school sweetheart couple separated less than a year following the birth of their son Bentley in 2008.

Currently, they are working towards establishing a collaborative parenting partnership. In 2023, Maci shared with TopMob News that Ryan has been appearing more frequently and reliably than perhaps he ever has in the past.

In 2012, Maci met her lifelong partner, Taylor McKinney from Texas. From thereon, they started expanding their team. They were blessed with daughter Jayde in May 2015 and son Maverick a year afterward. They tied the knot in Florida in October of the same year.

In an interview with TopMob News in 2023, she described her partner as her soulmate in all aspects of life, including their shared journey in parenthood and their TTM Lifestyle fashion brand. “He’s simply my one and only,” she said. “Despite the challenging times we’ve faced together, I believe that at the heart of it all, I continue to choose him. I appreciate him. And though there are moments when I feel like I could use a good punch to his face, I prefer to argue with him or go through difficult periods with him than to never experience those ups and downs with anyone else.

Regardless of having different partners now, the MTV celebrities, who became close during their time on The Challenge, still share parental responsibilities for their child named Ryder.

From the very start of Cory entering Ryder’s life, one crucial aspect that stood out for me was shaping the kind of father and parent he aspired to be. I made it clear from the get-go that I wouldn’t settle for a ‘Disneyland dad’ or an ‘Instagram dad’, someone who only shows up in fleeting moments. Instead, I required Cory to commit fully. It seems that early on, he recognized my approach and respected it, which is why our co-parenting dynamic works so harmoniously. (March 2020 interview with TopMob News)

Following the conclusion of their romance in 2018, they chose to revive their relationship. On Cheyenne’s 28th birthday celebration, she announced on Instagram that they were back together. In May 2021, they welcomed their firstborn child, a son named Ace, and tied the knot in September 2022.

In an interview with TopMob News in 2024, Cheyenne shared, “For the past two years, we’ve been crossing items off our bucket list. Our dream was to have a baby, and now we have Ace. Our goal was to get married, and we had our wedding ceremony. Our aspiration was to own a house, and we managed to buy one.

As of now, I find myself yearning for tranquility. Instead of pursuing new objectives, my heart desires a moment of rest. I long to sit quietly and simply savor the present moment, finding contentment in where we are. My wish is to strengthen our bond, to appreciate one another more deeply. That’s all I seek – nothing more.

Shooting for the reality show ‘Ex on the Beach’ might not seem like the beginning of a romantic tale at first glance, but fast forward several years and two children – daughters named Mila and Maya – later, Cory and ‘Are You the One?’ alum Taylor Selfridge are still leaving an impact.

In an interview with TopMob News in 2023, he revealed that they had recently purchased a new home. He also mentioned that marriage was a topic of discussion between them. “We have everything ready except for the ring and me proposing,” he said, emphasizing Taylor’s deservingness of this moment and their mutual desire for it. For now, they are making preparations to make it happen.

After marrying Mackenzie Standifer in May 2017, Ryan entered rehab shortly thereafter, and she gave birth to their first child, Jagger, in 2018 while he was still undergoing treatment.

This version maintains the original sequence of events but uses simpler language and a more conversational tone for clarity and ease of reading.

Despite welcoming daughter Stella in January 2020, Mackenzie filed for divorce from Ryan three years afterwards. Currently, Ryan is betrothed to Amanda Conner, who carries his unborn child.

Despite their highly disputed relationship concluding definitively in 2013, the former partners have found a way to jointly raise their teenage daughter Leah.

In an interview with TopMob News in January 2022, Amber shared, “We enjoy each other’s company while maintaining physical distance, yet our bond remains strong. In essence, we’ve evolved into a close-knit unit, prioritizing our relationship more as a family than any other aspect.

Following several years as a couple, an offer of marriage and a brief participation in ‘Marriage Boot Camp’, Amber and Matt Baier, who hails from Boston, ended their engagement in the year 2017.

On Dr. Drew Pinsky’s podcast, Amber admitted that she reached a point where she grew tired of listening and no longer cared in her relationship. She believes this is what transpired between her and him. Essentially, she stopped caring for the relationship as deeply as she should have. To protect herself from further pain, she erected a barrier around her emotions.

During her time on the set of “Marriage Boot Camp,” Amber developed feelings for crew member Andrew Glennon. They publicly confirmed their relationship at the 2017 MTV Movie Awards, and in May 2018, they welcomed their first child, James.

However, the pair didn’t stay together for long following Amber’s arrest for domestic battery in July 2019. After a challenging legal dispute, it was decided that California native Andrew would be granted both legal and primary physical custody of their child in 2022.

The “Teen Mom” star shared with TopMob News that she has put in a lot of effort to grow personally and strengthen her bond with her kids. She emphasized that everyone deserves a second chance, even though she’s been open about her previous struggles with substance abuse and mental health issues. She believes no one should be defined by their past challenges.

With unwavering persistence, she said, “Even if your path hasn’t been smooth, but you’ve striven tirelessly to grow into a stronger, steadier, and more compassionate individual today, let’s continue our journey ahead. I too am relentless in my pursuit, for my children whom I cherish above all else.

Following an online encounter with Amber, Dimitri Garcia first appeared on ‘Teen Mom OG’ in April 2020. On the program, Amber revealed, “Dimitri is from Belgium and he’s 39, making him 10 years older than me. However, he’s quite an attractive guy.” She added, “I gradually opened up to him, and we mutually agreed that it would be best for us to meet since we both liked each other.

In April 2021, Amber shared on the special reunion of Teen Mom OG that she was still seeing Dimitri. She stated, “We’ve been acquainted for about 18 months, but I haven’t seen him in a year.” Although they didn’t publicly break up, Amber introduced a new romantic interest, Gary Wayt, during a June 2024 episode of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter.

After Amber linked up with Gary 2.0 through a dating app in autumn 2023, he appeared on the screen when she presented him to her fellow ‘Teen Mom’ friends during a video call.

Despite his proposal in May 2024, their relationship didn’t last long. During her brother’s wedding in North Carolina in June, there was an argument between them which led to Gary leaving suddenly. This left Amber no choice but to report him as a missing person.

And while Gary was soon located, the duo’s engagment wasn’t the only thing left broken.

Amber shared, on the show ‘Teen Mom: The Next Chapter’, that she spent three to four days believing her fiancé was deceased. She spoke about grappling with intense grief and trying to understand why someone would do such a thing to her, expressing that she’s currently going through a difficult time.

She went on to say, “This man shattered me. I used to be strong and steady. For the first time in years, I’m not at my best due to a man placing a ring on my hand.

Several months following the arrival of their daughter Emilee in April 2015, Gary and his wife Kristina Anderson tied the knot in a charming beach wedding ceremony.

In his 2022 Instagram post, Gary expressed that you have one of the kindest and radiant spirits he’s encountered, and he can’t imagine carrying on without your presence.

In December 2008, which was two months after his unfortunate demise in an accident, Farrah Abraham’s father passed away, leaving behind their daughter Sophia.

In the time since the passing of her high school sweetheart, Farrah has been in an intermittent relationship with realtor Simon Saran that lasted more than two years.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve learned that even after a messy breakup in 2017, it can be challenging but not impossible to maintain a friendship. However, for these two individuals, it’s been a bit of a rocky road, with moments of success and setbacks. But they’re still trying.

Simon expressed to TopMob News that he holds no ill will towards Farrah. He explained they come from different backgrounds; she prefers a fabricated lifestyle, while he values authenticity. Despite their differences, he wishes her well and hopes for her continued success in all her future ventures.

Jenelle Evans and Andrew Lewis, who are Jace’s parents, parted ways soon after his birth in 2009. Since then, Jenelle has not played an active role in their son’s life.

On that 2019 episode of Teen Mom 2, Jenelle mused over the fact that Jace’s dad was troubling for her. Even though she understands his character, she doesn’t want him to let down her son by coming and going unpredictably.

Having spent a year married to Courtland Rogers, I then became a mother for the second time with Nathan Griffin in 2014, welcoming our son Kaiser into the world. In September 2017, eight months after we had our daughter Ensley, I exchanged vows with David Eason on our North Carolina property.

Following a challenging period, David was accused of a minor child abuse offense concerning Jace. At the time, Jenelle compared it to a smear campaign against him. Later, they announced their separation. Jenelle clarified on social media that due to North Carolina laws, she couldn’t immediately file for divorce because they had to be legally separated for a year and provide proof of two separate residences.

Recall the man who once questioned his ex-girlfriend, Chelsea Houska, about when he could officially finalize their mistake by signing the necessary documents?

Completely in the rearview.

Despite the challenges, the reality TV personality turned HGTV star, formerly known as Teen Mom’s star, maintains a surprisingly amicable bond with her high school ex, Adam Lind, who is Aubree’s father. She shared this with Us Weekly, stating, “There are no negative vibes; it’s just an open relationship. There are no grudges. We occasionally meet up, and everything is perfectly fine.

In 2014, an adorable chance encounter at a gas station started things off between Chelsea and Cole DeBoer. They officially became a couple in October 2016 when they tied the knot. Since then, their family has grown with the arrival of their son Watson in 2017, followed by daughters Layne in 2018 and Walker in 2021. Recently, they embarked on a new venture together – their HGTV series Down Home Fab.

Speaking with TopMob News, Chelsea shared her reasons for returning to TV. She wanted the new project to be upbeat, enjoyable, and allow them to express their genuine personalities, which is why this move felt perfectly suited. In her own words, she described it as an exciting chance to do just that.

Initially, high school student Leah Messer and Corey Simms endeavored to transform their friendship into a lifelong union, but the parents of teenage twins Aleeah and Aliannah called it quits just six months following their October 2010 wedding by filing for divorce.

Corey has been married to Miranda Patterson since 2013.

In 2012, Leah got married to Jeremy Calvert, and the following year, they were blessed with a daughter named Adalynn.

Despite separating in 2015, they’ve put forth an attempt to jointly raise their daughter, with outcomes that aren’t always smooth. Leah expressed to TopMob News, “I see the best version of myself reflected back at me.” She continued, “Witnessing all the things they adore and appreciate in life, and being there for them as they grow is nothing short of enchanting. I cherish it. I cherish being a mother, particularly to my daughters.

By the year 2021, Jaylan Mobley, the U.S. Army officer, had already won over Leah and her children when they made their Instagram relationship official.

The couple announced their engagement in August 2022, but broke up that October.

The ‘Teen Mom’ celebrity admitted to TopMob News a year later that the breakup was necessary for her. She shared that she has gained valuable insights from her past relationship, and as she moves on, she feels like a new chapter in her life is opening up.

Kailyn Lowry had her first child, Isaac, with her high school sweetheart Jo Rivera at the age of 17 back in 2010.

Despite parting ways a year later, they have now established a harmonious co-parenting relationship. In fact, Kailyn hosts her discontinued “Baby Mamas No Drama” podcast alongside Jo’s wife, Vee Torres. Kailyn expressed this in a post following Jo and Vee’s 2018 wedding, stating, “We’ve come a long way since we were 18. I couldn’t ask for a better stepmother for my son, Isaac.

In November 2013, Kailyn’s second child, Lincoln, became part of the team. This was approximately one year following her wedding to Lincoln’s father, Javi Marroquin, who was then a prominent figure on Teen Mom 2.

In late 2016, their relationship had its ups and downs, with Javi and his fiancée Lauren Comeau (who already have a son named Eli) announcing in December 2023 that they are expecting their second child together, this time a baby girl.

Kailyn had sons Lux and Creed with her partner Chris Lopez during their off-again, on-again relationship, but in the end, they decided to part ways permanently.

She shared with TopMob News in 2020 that there is currently no communication between us. However, I am optimistic that things will improve over time, but I don’t have any grand plans. I have nothing negative to say about the situation. I just hope for the best and pray that everything resolves itself, regardless of which direction it takes, for the sake of our children.

Kailyn is finding a solid base in her relationship with Elijah Scott. According to People, she shared that Elijah, father of her son Rio and twins Verse and Valley, is unlike her previous partners and their exes. “He’s quite different,” she said about Elijah. “He works hard on construction sites, but he’s also a devoted family man. He’s deeply rooted in his own family and ours, making him an excellent partner for me. I feel we’re well-suited as a couple.

A strong enough one that she finally said yes to one of his many proposals, in fact.

In an interview with TopMob News in September 2024, Kailyn made it clear that her neighbor-turned-partner had proposed marriage multiple times and she never said “no.” She explained, “I simply responded, ‘Yes, but not just yet.’

And while she admitted that the construction worker had significantly altered her perspective on marriage, she isn’t in any great hurry to purchase a white wedding gown, as Kailyn humorously put it: “Whether or not we get married soon depends entirely on the particular day you happen to ask me.

Despite encountering numerous highs and lows since the birth of their daughter Kloie in 2017, Indiana natives Jade Cline and Sean Austin hinted to their followers in January 2022 that they were experiencing a positive turnaround.

She shared with TopMob News that there were significant events in our lives, as well as notable advancements in Sean’s life and future. I am incredibly proud of him and where we stand now. Eight months after this conversation, the couple announced their engagement, getting married in October 2023.

In 2024, Jade admitted to TopMob News that her relationship isn’t flawless all the time. However, she emphasized that they share a deep affection for one another and manage to navigate through their challenges.

In the year 2021, longtime Californian residents Ashley Jones and Bar Smith tied the knot in a private ceremony. This was four years following the arrival of their daughter, Holly.

But after calling off their romance several times, Ashley officially filed for divorce in 2024.

In the years following Briana DeJesus and Devoin Austin II becoming parents to Nova in 2011 on the show 16 and Pregnant, there were signs that they might rekindle their relationship.

Currently, Briana shared with TopMob News in 2024, “What I’m seeking now is a mature man, not the youthful partners I was accustomed to dating in the past.

Following her appearance on the sole season of Teen Mom 3, Briana became a part of the cast in the eighth season of Teen Mom 2. In July 2017, she welcomed her second daughter, Stella, with her former partner Luis Miguel.

Since then, Luis has only been occasionally involved. As Briana put it to Dr. Drew during the December 2019 episode of Teen Mom 2, “I think he desires a family with me,” she said, “and since I’m not providing that for him, he seems to prefer staying as far away as possible.
