Hi-Rez Studio Suffers Significant Layoffs, Drops Everything But Smite 2

hey there, Hi-Rez Studios! As a massive fan, I’m feeling quite concerned about recent news that your studio is undergoing some significant staff reductions. Hope everything turns out alright for those affected and the amazing games continue to thrive.

In the course of these changes, we’ve decided to put the current support for Smite 1, Paladins, and Rogue Company on hold so that we can focus entirely on the advancement of Smite 2.

Due to tough market circumstances, Hi-Rez Studios has decided to reduce staff across Rally Here, Evil Mojo Games, and Titan Forge Games divisions, as stated in a message on their Discord. This action was taken with the goal of maintaining the long-term viability of our studios.

The “recently optimized workflow” is now entirely dedicated to Smite 2, the studio’s recently released game and successor to their popular Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA). It appears that some team members who were previously working on the sequel have unfortunately been let go.

The servers for SMITE, Paladins, and Rogue Company will stay active for the time being, but there are no immediate plans for significant new updates in these games. Instead, we’ll keep them running so that you can keep playing them for as long as possible.

The company expresses gratitude to all those who have been affected by the layoffs, approximately forty in total. “Every team member impacted has been given an eight-week notice and we stand firmly behind them as they seek fresh prospects. Their talents are extraordinary, and any studio would undeniably gain from their abilities and enthusiasm.

Over the past few years, there have been numerous layoffs in the gaming industry. While this recent news isn’t unexpected, it’s still disheartening to witness so many individuals losing their jobs abruptly. Here’s hoping that everyone impacted manages to find new opportunities swiftly.
