At the 2021 Game Awards, Monolith Productions (a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Games) announced they were working on a video game inspired by the Wonder Woman comics. However, they admitted that the game was yet to begin development when this teaser trailer was released. For three years, there was little news about the project, but 2024 updates from Monolith sparked excitement among players as we anticipated seeing some gameplay footage. Unfortunately, no such update came. In a recent article discussing Warner Bros., Bloomberg revealed that the game is still being developed, but its future is uncertain due to recent changes within the studio.
2021 has proven to be a tough year for WB Games, as several titles based on their key intellectual properties didn’t meet the anticipated expectations. For instance, the games Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and Harry Potter Quidditch failed to make an impact like Hogwarts Legacy did. Similarly, Multiversus didn’t achieve the success WB had envisioned, and both it and Suicide Squad have already been terminated. In light of these setbacks, WB Games is pinning high hopes on a successful venture from their core properties soon. Enter the upcoming Wonder Woman game developed by Monolith.
As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but reflect on my admiration for Monolith Productions and their groundbreaking work with “Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor,” a masterpiece that revolutionized gaming with its innovative Nemesis System and captivating combat mechanics. Although the sequel didn’t quite match the initial success, it still left an indelible mark in the gaming world. Ever since the 2017 release, there hasn’t been a single game from Monolith to satiate our hunger for more of their creative brilliance.
However, all hope is not lost! After a challenging journey seeking another Warner Bros. franchise that could be molded into the Nemesis system, they unveiled an exciting new project: a “Wonder Woman” game, announced at the 2021 Game Awards. I eagerly anticipate their return to the gaming scene with this highly-anticipated title.
Wonder Woman Game Has Changed Direction With a Full Reboot
Initially, the news circulated that the upcoming “Wonder Woman” video game would incorporate the Nemesis system from the Monolith studio’s creation, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. The developers intended to infuse the game with elements reminiscent of Wonder Woman, capitalizing on the appeal of Shadow of Mordor’s gameplay mechanics. However, it appears that Monolith has shifted direction and is now focusing on a more traditional action-adventure game. In 2024, the project underwent a reboot, with a new director taking over. As of now, the studio remains uncertain about the final form their “Wonder Woman” game will take. They’ve been relatively quiet about the project lately, but did send well wishes to fans on Wonder Woman Day in October 2024, which some interpreted as a positive sign for the game’s future, hinting at potential updates in 2025.
Happy Wonder Woman Day!!

It appears that Monolith may not provide an update this year, indicating a prolonged wait for tangible developments. To date, the production of this game has been expensive, with reports suggesting it’s cost over $100 million. Given these costs, the game might still be several years away from release, if it ever does come out. Since the initial teaser trailer, eager fans have yet to receive any additional information about the gameplay or storyline. Even dedicated fans of Wonder Woman and DC Comics are left with limited expectations, as they wait for more details to fuel their anticipation.
For fans eagerly awaiting the release of the “Wonder Woman” game, this news might not be what you’re hoping for, but rest assured, it’s not cancelled. The game appears to be under development, although its progress has been a bit unconventional. Given that it’s one of the larger projects in the pipeline, alongside the “Hogwarts Legacy” sequel, there’s still hope that we’ll see it someday. It may take some time, though.
