Heroic Firefighters Reveal Harrowing Month-Long Battle Against LA Blazes

The Los Angeles Fire Department is continuing its hard work.

A week following the containment of the destructive Eaton and Palisades wildfires that swept through Southern California, LAFD captains Erik Scott and Adam VanGerpen offered insights on the crucial role their department played during this challenging period.

Scott shared with TopMob News correspondent Will Marfuggi during the 2025 Critics Choice Awards on February 7 that it’s been an incredibly prolonged month for them, as their firefighters have been tirelessly on duty day and night.

He went on to say, “This month has been quite challenging, but now we’ve reached the toughest part and are beginning to turn things around. We can now focus on the healing process.

The head of the fire department commended the help from surrounding regions, pointing out that as many as 5,600 firefighters were actively battling the fires at one stage.

Scott expressed his gratitude for the assistance, mentioning how it came in handy at an important time. He also noted that it was implemented swiftly, which was much needed given the lengthy and ongoing process they are still navigating.

They also expressed their thanks for the heartwarming and immense appreciation they’ve received from the Los Angeles community. Additionally, the local community’s affection has been evident through high-profile events such as the FireAid charity concert and shout-outs during the Grammys, which have resulted in a steady stream of donations and backing.

VanGerpan shared with TopMob that firefighters are accustomed to performing our duties out in the field. We’ve received a great deal of gratitude from the community and local businesses. Notably, Hollywood has shown exceptional support for our firefighting team.

I, being deeply touched, have shared heartwarming thank-you notes penned by young elementary school students. These thoughtful messages now adorn our office and fire station walls. The unwavering backing of our community – it’s this emotional reinforcement that fuels us every day.

Without a doubt, this topic was certainly noticed during the 30th annual event. For example, Jeff Goldblum couldn’t help but express admiration for the first responders who bravely acted during the destructive fires.

The “Wicked” actor expressed heartfelt gratitude and inspiration to those coming together, telling the media outlet alongside his wife Emilie Livingston. He hopes there will be more instances where people can unite during challenging times, offering support to one another. That’s what he yearns for and aims to achieve.
