Stars Share Health Scares: Hailey, Amy, Jamie, and More

Jamie Foxx has a new outlook on life.

At the 2025 Golden Globes on January 5th, Oscar said to TopMob, “Remember when you snap a photo on your phone and apply the first filter to make it brighter? Life is like that now – everything seems enhanced or altered.

In April 2023, that pivotal moment occurred in his life when the actor experienced a brain bleed followed by a stroke. Besides his medical team, he is grateful for his family, particularly his sister Deidra Dixon and daughters Corinne and Anelise, who played a crucial role in saving him. “My daughters Corinne Marie and Anelise kept me going,” the star of Ray expressed. “I’m just incredibly blessed because it was touch-and-go.

It’s a sentiment Amy Schumer can relate to.

The comedian clarified on the January 22nd episode of Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast that there are two types of Cushing [syndrome], and one of them can be fatal. However, despite Amy initially worrying about the worst-case scenario for 24 hours, she eventually discovered that she had the non-fatal type, from which she later made a full recovery.

During my television interviews for my Hulu series, I simultaneously underwent MRI scans for four hours at a stretch, with my veins collapsing due to excessive blood draws, fearing I might not live to witness my son grow up. This is what the creator of Life & Beth, who shares a 5-year-old son Gene with husband Chris Fischer, wrote in the February 2024 edition of the News Not Noise newsletter. They expressed that learning they had a self-correcting form of Cushing’s disease and being in good health was the most incredible news they could ever receive.

Although the internet can sometimes be unkind, Amy Schumer is thankful it provided answers for her in this situation. She mentioned that after doing several interviews, she felt the need to calm everyone down, but doctors started commenting and suggested she might have Cushing syndrome due to increased cortisol levels or steroid injections. Surprised by being criticized by medical professionals, Amy realized she had been receiving steroid injections for her scars. After understanding that she had a type of Cushing syndrome that would resolve itself, Amy is now relieved and grateful.

In March 2022, Hailey Bieber endured a truly terrifying incident during breakfast with her husband, Justin Bieber. She began exhibiting symptoms similar to a stroke, as she struggled to speak and one side of her face drooped. Sharing her experience a month later on YouTube, Hailey recalled Justin asking if she was alright, to which she initially couldn’t respond.

Subsequently, the model visited a hospital where doctors discovered a small blood clot in her brain, classified as a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA). Further examination at the University of California, Los Angeles, revealed Hailey had a hole in her heart called patent foramen ovale (PFO). The blood clot is believed to have traveled through this hole into her heart, escaped, and made its way to her brain, causing the TIA.

Fortunately, Hailey underwent a successful PFO closure procedure and reported feeling well since then.

In the same year as Hailey’s health scare, Justin also faced his own health issue. Specifically, in June 2022, the “Baby” singer disclosed that he had been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome. This condition led to temporary paralysis of parts of his face, which compelled him to cancel the rest of his Justice World Tour. Justin explained on Instagram that this virus affected the nerve in his ear and facial nerves, causing his face to become paralyzed. At the time, he couldn’t blink one eye, smile on one side of his face, or move one nostril. The condition made eating difficult for him. However, after some time, the paralysis subsided. Hailey shared on Good Morning America that Justin was doing well and recovering nicely. She expressed her relief that he was alright despite it being a frightening and unexpected situation.

Initially tight-lipped about his hospitalization in April 2023, Jamie Foxx eventually shared his experiences. In Atlanta, during a Netflix special titled “What Had Happened Was…” in 2024, he recounted, “I asked my friend for an aspirin, but before I could get it, I went outside. I can’t remember the next 20 days.”

Upon being sent home after receiving a cortisone shot from an initial doctor, his sister, Deidra Dixon, drove him to a hospital where they discovered he had a brain bleed that resulted in a stroke. Following a 20-day coma, Foxx woke up on May 4 in a wheelchair and was unable to walk. He then traveled to Chicago for rehabilitation and therapy.

“I can only tell you that I appreciate every prayer,” he said, “because I needed every one of them.

Emilia Clarke performed intense battle scenes for Game of Thrones, but in 2019, she penned an essay called “A Battle for My Life” in The New Yorker. In her own words, she described a severe headache at the gym that led to vomiting and intensifying pain, which she recognized as damage to her brain.

Admitted to the hospital for a scan, she was diagnosed with a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a critical type of stroke caused by bleeding around the brain. She had an immediate surgery to repair the aneurysm, describing the pain as excruciating. During recovery, she experienced aphasia and spoke incoherently.

A week later, the aphasia subsided, and she was discharged from the hospital after a month. However, at a 2013 brain scan, they discovered a growth had doubled in size, necessitating another surgery. Upon waking from this procedure, she was in agony as it had failed, and the doctors informed her that her chances of survival were slim if they didn’t operate again. This time, they accessed her brain through her skull.

Thankfully, Emilia is now reportedly in perfect health.

Cori Broadus, daughter of Snoop Dogg, expresses her gratitude towards her family following a severe stroke in January 2024. Upon hearing the news, her loved ones swiftly rushed to support her. “I informed them about my stroke via text and sent a picture,” she shared with TopMob News correspondent Will Marfuggi in December 2024. “Everyone came to my aid.”

Due to additional health complications, Cori’s hospital stay extended beyond what was initially anticipated. She explained further in the interview for ‘Snoop’s Fatherhood: Cori and Wayne’s Story’, “I could have been discharged following my stroke, but my lupus wasn’t responding well. My kidneys were failing, which added to the numerous challenges I faced.”

Currently, Cori is making a steady recovery. She stated, “I’m doing well now. I needed to regain some motor skills, but other than that, I was in good condition.

In her twenties, the actress Shailene Woodley‘s health took a turn for the worse. At one point, she experienced hearing loss, struggled to walk for more than five minutes without needing rest, and found everything she ate upset her stomach. Various medical professionals offered conflicting diagnoses, making it difficult for her to find answers.

Driven by her background in holistic medicine, Shailene sought help from both conventional doctors and alternative healers. This quest lasted over a decade as she grappled with the physical discomfort that came with her condition.

This prolonged struggle led to other issues such as fear of food due to stomach pain, body dysmorphia, identity confusion, and feelings of insecurity and uncertainty about her own body.

However, after addressing both her physical and mental health concerns, Shailene is now in a much better state. “It was a long journey,” she admitted, “but I am glad to say that I am healthy now.
