The PlayStation Network (PSN) has remained offline for both PS4 and PS5 users since Friday, extending into Saturday, marking one of the longest PSN outages on record. This current outage surpasses the previous record set in October by over 5 hours. In normal circumstances, a PSN outage lasts less than an hour, and if it persists, it is usually resolved overnight. However, this time, the network has been down for more than one hour now, and it’s still unavailable on the following day. The current issues appear to be more significant than usual.
As the PlayStation Network (PSN) remains offline, users of PS3, PS4, PS5, PS Vita, PlayStation VR, and PlayStation Portal are unable to access any online features. The PSN Service Status page indicates that the problems are widespread, affecting all aspects of the network such as Account Management, Gaming and Social, PlayStation Video, PlayStation Store, and PlayStation Direct.
Essentially, here’s what it means: If the Account Management and Gaming/Social functions are offline on PlayStation Network (PSN), users of PS4, PS5, and other PlayStation platforms won’t be able to log into PSN, establish a new account, or modify their existing account details. Furthermore, they won’t be able to engage in online games or communicate with friends through PSN.
Around 7 PM Eastern Time on February 7, PlayStation Network (PSN) experienced an outage. It wasn’t until 8:46 PM that the official PlayStation Support account, known as Ask PlayStation, acknowledged the issue, stating that they were aware some users might be encountering problems with PSN at the moment.
Initially, PlayStation remained silent about why PSN went down and when it would be back up. To this day, there’s no clear information regarding these issues from either PlayStation or its parent company Sony. In fact, since the incident, there has been no additional update provided. The X post last night was the sole communication from PlayStation, leaving millions of PSN users worldwide searching for answers online on their PS4 and PS5 consoles.
We’ll keep informing PSN users on PS4, PS5, and other PlayStation systems about any changes as the situation develops. At present, there’s no guarantee that the issue will be resolved by February 8, but we’re hopeful that it will be, given that PlayStation is working diligently to find a solution.
