The extended outage of PlayStation Network (PSN) has posed significant challenges for PS5 users who heavily rely on a widely used console feature. Over the past 24 hours, PSN has been inoperable on both PS4 and PS5, marking the longest service disruption since more than a decade ago. The widespread interconnectedness of gaming communities makes this prolonged downtime a substantial concern. Beyond video games, numerous individuals utilize consoles like the PS5 for services such as Netflix, YouTube, and Twitch, making it an integral part of their entertainment beyond gaming. For gamers specifically, PSN enables digital game purchases, social interaction with friends, and access to the games themselves.
The PS5’s cornerstone has sparked outrage among PlayStation enthusiasts due to the prolonged PSN outage. As the situation unfolds, fans have expressed growing annoyance. Since yesterday evening, PlayStation has only shared a single statement, informing players that they were aware of the downtime. Since then, there’s been radio silence. This lack of communication has left players in the dark, eager to know the cause of the outage, when normal service will resume, and if there are any additional concerns. At present, we’re all in the dark, with many opting to play their games offline until things improve.
PS5 Users Who Game Share Unable to Play Games Due to PSN Outage
Regrettably, a number of players face the challenge of not being able to play anything on their PS5 due to the ongoing PlayStation Network (PSN) outage. While digital owners can only access what they currently have installed, there’s another group that’s affected even more – those who utilize game sharing. Game sharing allows two players to sign into each other’s accounts and enable console sharing, providing access to any games the other person purchases. However, this method means neither player owns the license for any of the games they buy. As a result, if the PSN goes offline, the PS5 cannot verify ownership for these games, leaving the primary buyer out of luck.
Users who share their PS5 games are reporting issues in playing them due to the PSN servers failing to confirm the license for newly-launched, highly-rated RPG “Kingdom Come Deliverance 2”. Since gaming expenses can be substantial, many opt for game sharing where they take turns purchasing titles. However, there’s a workaround, but it will only become feasible once the servers are back online. It’s important to note that only one of the two individuals engaged in the game share arrangement will be able to employ this method. Here’s how to play shared games offline on your PS5 for further clarification. For any questions or concerns, please refer to the PlayStation FAQ page.

With regards to this ongoing outage, it’s sparking similarities to the 2011 PlayStation Network (PSN) hack incident. In April 2011, PSN suffered a hack that lasted almost an entire month. During this time, PS3 users couldn’t purchase games, play online, or access online features for newly released titles. While hopefully this isn’t another hack and there’s no cause for concern, it’s stirring up unpleasant recollections for long-term PSN users. To add to their frustration, users of the PS Portal device are unable to use it due to its reliance on a continuous connection to PSN, which is currently down.
