SEGA, a subsidiary under parent company SEGA Sammy Holdings, recently shared its financial report from the period ending December 31st, 2024, where they decided to discontinue Football Manager 25. Despite a staggering 88% surge in profit for their Entertainment Contents Division, largely due to the blockbuster success of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie, total sales experienced a decrease of 8.1% compared to the previous year, amounting to $2.1 billion in revenue.
According to GamesIndustry.biz’s analysis, SEGA Sammy attributes some of their decreased net sales to the sale of Amplitude Studios, which took place in November 2024. This transaction resulted in a loss of approximately $40 million for the company, as Amplitude Studios bought its own independence.
Even though Metaphor: ReFantazio and Sonic X Shadow Generations, released in October 2024, were Sega’s top earners, it seems that Sega will carry on with its transmedia strategy, as they perceive a strong correlation between the success of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic X Shadow Generations moving forward.
