Last week, IGN dropped a report about the rising tide of subpar games, or “eslop,” flooding digital marketplaces. As passionate gamers here at Push Square, we couldn’t help but join in the chorus, even though our influence on the PS Store might be slightly smaller. Under this growing scrutiny, it seems like Sony has decided to pull several shovelware games, primarily from RandomSpin Games, a developer known for releasing a new game almost every month.
Among the two platforms, very little new content on the PlayStation Store escapes the notice of TrueTrophies and PSNProfiles. These sites recently pointed out that certain simulation games with similar appearances and potentially deceptive marketing from questionable publishers and creators were taken down, but not all of them. (Credit goes to Eurogamer for this information.)
The timing is quite intriguing, and we lean towards attributing it to the influence of quality journalism. But make no mistake, there’s still a lot of work left to be done. For instance, RandomSpin’s highly anticipated Supermarket Simulator Pro has been taken down. Yet, numerous Supermarket Simulator games remain on the PlayStation Store, supposedly from different developers, and they all seem to share remarkably similar gameplay elements and assets.
