In my review for Civilization 7, I delved into the game for approximately 20 hours initially over a single weekend, followed by an additional 40 hours of playtime before finalizing my assessment. The consensus among critics seems to align with mine – the game is highly addictive and, despite minor glitches and user interface issues, it’s definitely worth your investment of time.

In Civilization 7, while it still retains that familiar Civ feel, the fresh mechanics and units could persuade you to rethink your previous strategies. In simpler terms, the pricing structure and downloadable content (DLC) plan that’s been revealed doesn’t aim for widespread appeal at the initial release, which is a common approach in Civilization games. Historically, these games have been priced quite high upon launch, accumulated additional content over subsequent months or years, and then experienced significant price drops to offer the entire package at a discounted rate. For instance, a PC version of Civilization 6 currently sells for only $3.69 at CDKeys, while expansions such as “Gathering Storm” have been reduced to just $4.99. This pattern should give you an idea of what to expect.
Not everyone can afford to wait over a year for good deals on content. I’ve been urging my gaming buddies to purchase the game, even just the basic version, so we can dominate the world together in a familiar multiplayer setting. CDKeys is where I suggest they go to save some cash.
Are Civilization 7’s DLCs worth buying?
Though specifics about Civilization 7’s DLCs aren’t fully disclosed yet, it’s reasonable to anticipate that they will offer a significant amount of extra content, just like previous games did. I don’t think this pattern will deviate too much with the upcoming launches of Crossroads of the World in early March and Right to Rule sometime between April and September 2025.
At the heart of this world, we’ll see the introduction of two influential figures, Ada Lovelace and Simon Bolivar, along with four unique civilizations – Carthage, Great Britain, Bulgaria, and Nepal. Additionally, four breathtaking natural marvels are set to be unveiled as well.
The term “Right to Rule” implies the introduction of not one but two new rulers, four fresh civilizations, and a total of four as-yet-unrevealed World Wonders.
The decision of whether you should buy the Deluxe or Founders Edition of the game, to gain access to future DLCs, largely depends on how much you enjoy playing it. Fortunately, you have the option to start with the base edition at a lower cost and upgrade to a more expensive version if you develop a strong fondness for the game later on.

Can your PC run Civilization 7?
The seventh installment of Civilization isn’t overly taxing, making it possible for it to run efficiently on portable gaming devices. However, during late-game AI turns, you might notice your CPU straining significantly, even my Ryzen 7 9800X3D struggles at the end of most turns. Nonetheless, since the game is turn-based, this strain won’t significantly impact the overall result.
For the best performance with Firaxis games, ensure your computer has a processor that meets or exceeds one of the following specifications: Intel Core i5-4690/Core i3-10100 or AMD Ryzen 3 1200. Additionally, you should have a graphics card that is at least as powerful as an NVIDIA GTX 1050, AMD RX 460, or Intel Arc A380 GPU.
For a smooth gaming experience on Ultra settings, Firaxis advises using either an Intel Core i7-14700F or a Ryzen 9 5950X CPU, and an NVIDIA RTX 4070 or AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT graphics card.
As a tech enthusiast, I’d highly recommend ensuring you’ve got at least 20GB of spare space on your computer, and a minimum of 8GB RAM for smooth performance. While more RAM is always beneficial, Firaxis suggests aiming for a whopping 32GB if you want to enjoy the Ultra settings to their fullest!
