Since the concept of “Dragon Ball Daima” was presented to shonen fans, long-time Z-Fighter supporters have often pondered about a previous “Grand Tour.” Although not canon, “Dragon Ball GT” has always left an impact and legacy on the shonen series, particularly with aspects like Super Saiyan 4. In a recent interview with the producer of the latest anime, Akio Iyoku, it was revealed that Daima was intentionally developed to reintroduce the original series, thus transforming Son Goku back into his younger form once more.
Initially, producer Akio Iyoku revealed that the newly created anime is tailored for Grand Tour enthusiasts who had first encountered the spin-off in their childhood years. He aimed to produce an animation suitable for both parents and children to enjoy together, primarily focusing on individuals from their early 30s and older with families. These are the people who once watched ‘Dragon Ball GT’ as kids. He took this demographic into account, and his endeavor to create a new series similar to ‘GT’ served as the foundation for this project.
Dragon Ball Daima’s Grand Tour
In an unexpected turn of events, it was disclosed that the initial concept for Daima aimed to replicate GT’s approach by limiting Goku’s transformations to a child form. The creator of Dragon Ball, Akira Toriyama, devised the change to have all characters transformed, as the producer explained. “Dragon Ball GT” is an original television anime that aired from 1996 to 1997, and shares similarities with “DAIMA” in that Goku embarks on a grand adventure in a diminutive form. While adult Goku is cool, the miniature Goku offers both coolness and cuteness, and possesses a unique allure. One of the standout moments in “DAIMA” features tiny Goku engaging in combat using his Nyoibou stick.
Ikoyu further explains, “One major focus of this project is to reach a larger audience, and looking back, I believe making Goku less imposing made the entry point easier. Initially, I didn’t expect everyone to be small, but it was Sensei’s concept. ‘GT’ stands for ‘Grand Touring’, and we aim to portray an adventure in the world of ‘DAIMA‘ with a style distinct from ‘Super‘ where Goku consistently grows stronger. Even though Goku appears smaller, witnessing him battle using his Nyoibou stick provides a fresh perspective, offering a unique appeal compared to ‘Super‘.
Dragon Ball Daima Season 2?
Speculation is running high among Dragon Ball fans as the final episode of Daima’s season approaches on February 28th. Some are wondering if a second installment is forthcoming, but no definitive answer has been given yet by the producers. However, it was confirmed that the Dragon Ball franchise will persist for years to come. In an interview, Akio expressed optimism that Dragon Ball would continue for decades after the sad demise of its creator, Akira Toriyama.
Creating anime and games requires patience, but we’re consistently working towards the future. Our aim is to broaden the ‘Dragon Ball’ universe even more. There’s no question that ‘Dragon Ball’ will carry on for many years. We’re still devising strategies, generating ideas, and moving forward. I look forward to continuing my efforts alongside Masako Nozawa-san.
