*Warning: This article contains full spoilers for the final episode of Virdee.*
Going into the final episode of Virdee, everything really is all to play for.
Harry (Staz Nair) and his group have been relentless in their efforts, day and night, to apprehend Jai Pawa (Ramon Tikaram), the former Bradford high-roller who’s been linked to a series of recent murders. They’ve also made it their mission to secure the safe return of Alastair Boardman (Jack Archer).
However, during the last confrontation in the second-to-last episode between Pawa and Harry, it is this unusual detail that catches Harry’s eye – a necklace belonging to Saima, played by Aysha Kala.
In our latest encounter with Saima, we witnessed her car being hit, followed by an enigmatic individual exiting to pick up Saima’s phone, interrupting an incoming call from Harry.
In the final scene of that particular episode, Saima lies unconscious and bound in an abandoned warehouse, raising questions about whether Harry can leverage Pawa’s arrest to bring about her safe rescue.
In the heat of the intense Bradford gang conflicts, Riaz (known as Vikash Bhai) ended the life of Vasil Shala (Andi Jashy). Unaware, his sister Saima witnessed the entire event play out.
The last episode, number six, certainly delivers a strong impact as the risks for Harry and his kin reach their peak. Yet, what happens in the end to Virdee? Dive into the analysis below for a comprehensive review of the BBC thriller’s conclusion.

In the thrilling finale, I find myself transported back to 2017, offering a striking contrast to the notorious Pawa, the drug lord as I once knew him.
It appears that he is coordinating a significant delivery, and it has been observed that not only did Riaz work with Pawa, but his current partner, Sophie (previously Nichola Burley), used to be married to Pawa herself.
As Riaz leaves the building, he gives a acknowledging gesture to Sophie. However, problems arise when it’s discovered that the shipment lacks four crates compared to the original agreement, and when firearms appear, the police are taken off guard and quickly apprehend everyone involved.
As Harry enters, he apprehends Sophie, at which point he says, “Stay composed, almost there,” subtly implying that Sophie was involved in the capture of Pawa.
Currently, Harry is still grappling with the fact that Pawa confessed he has Saima, yet he’s unable to disclose this information to others.
Riaz learns from an officer on his team who receives payment, that Pawa has given up. Instantly, Sophie realizes it’s crucial for him to show up, not only for her but also to seek retribution against them both.
At the police station later on, Pawa confides in Harry that he’s certain Riaz was the informant and the cause behind his incarceration. He believes Riaz employed the stolen £30 million worth of drugs to establish his own enterprise and bribe Harry. However, instead of focusing on Riaz, Harry is anxious about Saima’s whereabouts, a detail that Pawa stubbornly withholds from him.
As a cinephile, I found myself in a conversation with Pawa where he laid out Harry’s twisted scheme. It seemed that Harry had been offing folks in Bradford with the ultimate goal of being caught and shipped off to prison, all so he could finally cop to his own shady dealings with Riaz. Quite the plot twist, don’t you think?
Pawa explains that he didn’t want Harry to be responsible for the Virdee name being associated with corruption and death, so he suggests that Harry should openly confess all about his dealings with Riaz at a press conference, which could result in both Harry and Riaz getting arrested.
In the end, Pawa intends to have the individuals imprisoned, allowing him to carry out his plan of causing pain for both of them once they are there. However, Pawa proposes that he will exchange Saima for the person who wronged him, Sophie, in lieu of whatever punishment is due.
It turns out that Harry is unaware of the relationship between Sophie and Riaz, as Pawa explains that they’ve lost track of Sophie since she went into witness protection.
Afterwards, Harry submitted a request for the witness protection program through his superior, Clare, but he hasn’t received any response as of now.
Harry heads to Riaz’s storage facility where he fiercely confronts Riaz over the situation involving Pawa holding Saima captive and threatening her life. Together, they devise a strategy to ambush the vehicle transporting Pawa to a safer location, with Riaz’s crew ready and willing to assist.
Enzo (Tomi May), one of Riaz’s key associates, indicates during the planning phase that they’ll proceed with the plan only if this is Harry’s final negotiation. After completing this significant favor for Harry, Enzo suggests that Harry should enter into a partnership with Riaz, which has been Riaz’s aspiration all along, implying that Riaz would then be in control as well.
In the end, Harry consents to the partnership, and the subsequent day unfolds smoothly for their ambush operation until DS Amin (Danyal Ismail) attempts to seize one of the masked abductors. In an attempt to fire at Amin, they do, but remarkably, Harry steps in front, receiving the bullet instead. To their relief, he was wearing a bulletproof vest and emerges unscathed from the ordeal.
Later on, at one of Riaz’s storage facilities, Enzo makes an attempt to coax information about Saima’s location from Pawa, but is unsuccessful. Meanwhile, we observe Saima attempting to escape her confinement, only to sustain injuries during this effort.
Without Pawa showing any signs of distress, Sophie arrives, informing Riaz that she plans to enter the place and propose their plan to elope, assuming that was Pawa’s long-held desire. It turns out that Harry is taken aback by the revelation that Sophie and Riaz have been a couple for quite some time.
Sophie enters to chat with Pawa, unaware that he’s hiding a piece of broken glass within his hands. As they converse, Sophie reminisces about their history, pondering over the times when Pawa was unfaithful to her, involving several other women.
She openly confesses that her purpose isn’t about locating Saima, and in a sudden turn of events, Pawa plunges a knife into her. He says, “This saga concludes as it began,” before vanishing.
Sharing with Harry and Riaz the information about what Pawa mentioned, it becomes clear to Harry that the place Pawa is referring to is the very same warehouse from the sting operation long past, the same one that led to Pawa’s imprisonment.
As it happens, that’s the place where Pawa has confined Saima. However, upon his visit there with the intention of ending her life, he discovers that she has managed to escape and is concealing herself instead.
What happens to Saima?

In the warehouse, a nerve-wracking standoff unfolds between Pawa and Saima, each armed with a gun. Saima trembles as she searches for a suitable place to hide, unfortunately giving away her position along the way.
Eventually, Harry navigates towards the warehouse in search of his wife, while simultaneously, Pawa approaches Saima. With a gun pointed at her head, he captures her. At this precise moment, Harry discovers them. Pawa demands that Harry surrender his weapons on the floor, leaving him defenseless and with little chance to protect himself or Saima from their predicament.
Meanwhile, unbeknownst to everyone, Riaz sneaks into the warehouse too. He surprises Pawa who is holding Saima, revealing Harry and their questionable transactions to her. Eventually, Riaz shoots Pawa in the stomach, causing him to momentarily lose consciousness. This allows Saima to strike him and escape from his grasp.
In the end, Riaz ends up fatally shooting Pawa in the head. Enzo and Riaz instruct Harry to get rid of his weapons and clothing to avoid any traceability, and they also ask Saima to follow suit.
I, Saima, am deeply shaken, not just by the recent events, but also upon discovering that my brother and husband are entangled in illegal activities. Overwhelmed with tears, I express to Harry that I no longer recognize him and question whether I truly knew him at all.
In the course of their conversation about reconciling with Saima, Riaz advises Harry to shoulder everything and fabricate the truth. He’s willing to bear all the responsibility, even if it means shielding Harry, for the sake of preserving their marriage.
When they seal their pact, they likewise promise to keep silent regarding Paul King, the bigoted thug whom Harry had fatally stabbed during his teenage years, an incident for which Riaz assumed the responsibility.

At the conclusion of the episode, both Pawa and Vasil Shala, also known as Andi Jashy, were discovered deceased. A message was found near Pawa’s remains that read: “The debt has been settled.
At the crime scene, Harry is present alongside Clare, proposing a novel hypothesis: it’s suggested that Pawa was assisted in murdering Vasil, yet this aid ultimately betrayed him. This twist could signify the resolution of the Bradford rivalry and hint towards a potential new powerbroker.
Later on, DS Amin stops by to see Harry and assures him that he dropped by the hospital to make sure he was okay. But unbeknownst to Amin, Harry had skipped the hospital visit and headed straight to the warehouse following their planned ambush. Amin informs Harry that the hospital claimed he hadn’t been admitted, but Harry cleverly evades the deception using Saima’s profession as a nurse at the same facility.
Later, Amin is unexpectedly summoned for a meeting with Rebecca (Elaine Tan). She discloses that the situation involving Pawa and Vasil hints at something beyond mere organized crime networks. She clarifies that there are signs that the Greater Yorkshire Police may have been infiltrated by these criminal groups, and she plans to look into it thoroughly. However, she requests Amin’s assistance on the case.
What happens between Harry and his family?

Upon returning from the hospital, Ranjit (Kulvinder Ghir) appears somber, but Tara (Nina Singh) challenges him over his behavior towards Harry during their family Diwali celebration.
He shares that his father passed away while he was still young, leaving him without much guidance on being a great dad. However, this all changed when Tara arrived, demonstrating to him the ways he could improve as a parental role model.
Tara and Jyoti (Sudha Bhuchar) take advantage of the moment to convey to him that Harry continues to hold feelings for him, suggesting there might be a chance to restart things. Pondering on this, Ranjit expresses his uncertainty about how to proceed, but Tara assures him they can provide assistance.
Afterward, Ranjit can be found seated on a park bench, joined by Harry who appears emotional as he shares with Ranjit the consequences of his actions and expresses his disapproval. However, Ranjit remains silent and instead, offers comfort by gently placing his hand on Harry’s, suggesting a chance for them to heal and begin anew.
The following day, Harry visits Saima and offers an apology for all his actions. However, she presses him for the truth. Harry confesses that he has collaborated with Riaz for quite some time, explaining that he’s been attempting to make Riaz cease his activities. Yet, when Saima inquires about Paul King, Harry is compelled to fabricate a story about him.
In a turn of events, Harry deceives Saima by claiming he encountered Riaz on the day of Paul’s demise. He alleges that Riaz shared details about the incident and expressed a desire to flee, but Harry prevented him from doing so.
Saima continues to view the disclosure of that data as a breach of confidence and remains hurt. Harry promises to rectify this situation and restore their relationship.
In the final scene, Harry and Riaz find each other on a rooftop, offering a panorama of Bradford below. Without uttering a single word, they stand there, poised to face their fresh circumstances and the bond they’ve forged.
