The problems with Walt Disney World’s infrastructure are piling up and becoming harder to overlook. Following EPCOT’s sewer leaks and a ceiling collapse in Soarin’ Around the World, Magic Kingdom experienced a widespread power outage last night, which caused over 15 attractions to halt operations across the park.

Although Disney didn’t reveal the exact cause, WDW Magic reportedly learned from its sources that the power outage was due to problems with the park’s compressed air system, an essential part that powers numerous attractions. This malfunction left the theme park functioning minimally during busy evening hours, leaving many full-priced visitors disappointed.
A Night of Frustration for Guests
7:30 p.m. on February 10th, My Disney Experience indicated extensive ride closures across Magic Kingdom. Notably, some of the park’s most beloved attractions such as Space Mountain, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Pirates of the Caribbean, Peter Pan’s Flight, and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure were all temporarily out of service (it seems that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure has been experiencing issues before this incident).

The full list of closed attractions in alphabetical order includes:
- The Barnstormer
- Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin
- Country Bear Jamboree
- Dumbo the Flying Elephant
- Enchanted Tales with Belle
- “it’s a small world”
- The Magic Carpets of Aladdin
- The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
- Peter Pan’s Flight
- Pirates of the Caribbean
- Prince Charming Regal Carrousel
- Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
- Space Mountain
- Tiana’s Bayou Adventure
- Tomorrowland Speedway
- Under the Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid
- Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress
- Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room
Due to the outage, guests found themselves searching for amusement as wait times significantly increased for the limited open rides like TRON Lightcycle Run, The Haunted Mansion, and Jungle Cruise. Things took a turn for the worse for those attending the Disney After Hours event, which promises reduced crowds, special nighttime access to attractions, and an exclusive experience – unfortunately, many of these attractions were inaccessible.
By the following day, Disney managed to fix the technical issues, allowing regular park activities to resume. Yet, the absence of a clear explanation regarding the cause of these problems has sparked significant worries about their potential recurrence.
Recurring Infrastructure Failures at Walt Disney World
At Disney World, the recent power outage is yet another instance in a concerning sequence of issues related to infrastructure that have been cropping up. Just recently, The Land Pavilion at EPCOT experienced two significant malfunctions.
Initially, a sewage leak by Soarin’ Around the World caused water to overflow onto guest pathways, leading to a temporary closure of the attraction. Subsequently, a ceiling collapse within the queue for Soarin’ reportedly scattered wood and debris on a walkway, narrowly missing several guests and staff members. Additionally, Magic Kingdom has had its fair share of maintenance problems. In August 2024 alone, Frontierland and Liberty Square experienced a significant sewage leak that necessitated Disney to close down entire areas of the park. This incident was at least the third sewage-related problem in that part of Magic Kingdom within recent years, sparking worries about the aging infrastructure.

These events have sparked discussions about Disney’s upkeep and safety conditions.
Upon examining these occurrences collectively, it’s evident that Disney seems overburdened, and visitors are suffering the consequences. Notably, they’re charged more for entrance, only to encounter even higher costs later on within the park.
A Declining Standard for a Premium Experience?
It’s well known that a visit to Walt Disney World has grown significantly pricier compared to before. The cost of tickets, Genie+ service fees, and additional charges for nighttime events have all risen dramatically. Unfortunately, the experiences guests are encountering these days seem more like those at a struggling local park rather than what one would expect from Disney’s self-proclaimed “happiest place on earth.
It’s not just minor issues; these problems clearly signal that there may be neglect in maintaining Disney’s theme parks. Visitors who pay premium prices anticipate exceptional care and dependability in return.

That begs the question, will Disney address the problem?
I find myself deeply concerned about Disney’s lack of transparency regarding their ongoing infrastructure issues. It’s disquieting that there are no clear explanations about what’s causing these problems or what steps are being taken to avoid them in the future. This leaves guests like me questioning if we’re facing more breakdowns, leaks, and collapses in the future.
While it’s exciting to see Disney pushing boundaries with new experiences, I can’t help but feel that they should ensure their basic operations are running smoothly before embarking on such ambitious projects. For instance, tearing down timeless attractions like Tom Sawyer Island, MuppetVision 3D, and Dinosaur seems premature when there are still concerns about keeping the lights on and the sewage beneath the ground.
If the present pace of setbacks persists, Disney might face a point where even dedicated fans could start doubting if the ticket price offers a satisfying return on their investment. As long as the company doesn’t make substantial efforts to fix and update its systems, these awkward mishaps will likely accumulate.
