For almost six years now, fans have been yearning for the comeback of Earth’s strongest team of heroes, following the 2019 release of “Avengers: Endgame.” Details about the upcoming movie, titled “Avengers: Doomsday,” have been sparse since its announcement at San Diego Comic-Con in 2024. However, a recent announcement disclosed that filming for the movie is scheduled to start this March in England. The Russo brothers, familiar faces in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will be directing “Doomsday” as well as its sequel, “Avengers: Secret Wars.” The Russo brothers have previously directed films such as “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Captain America: Civil War,” “Avengers: Infinity War,” and “Avengers Endgame.
There’s ongoing debate regarding who else might join the anticipated large ensemble cast of Avengers: Doomsday, though several new and familiar figures have already been confirmed. The intrigue surrounding which characters will show up in the movie is particularly high with regards to Robert Downey Jr., as it turns out he won’t reprise his role as Tony Stark/Iron Man – instead, he’ll portray the iconic Marvel Comics antagonist, Doctor Doom. The specifics of how this character shift will be handled in the film remain a secret, but fans speculate that the concept of the multiverse will significantly contribute to the explanation. It’s possible that Doom could be a variant of Stark or vice versa – only time will tell!
In addition to Anthony Mackie reprising his role as Sam Wilson/Captain America, Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, and Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, other familiar faces from the Avengers team are expected to join in too. The primary cast of the upcoming movie “Thunderbolts” will also be present, including Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Wyatt Russell as US Agent, David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, and Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster.
As a movie enthusiast, I was thrilled to see the talented cast assembled for the upcoming film, “Avengers: Doomsday.” Among these stellar actors, we have Pedro Pascal stepping into the role of Reed Richards / Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby bringing Susan Storm / Invisible Woman to life, Joseph Quinn igniting the screen as Johnny Storm / the Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach embodying Ben Grimm / the Thing from the much-anticipated spinoff film, “The Fantastic Four: First Steps.”
Given the comical history between Doctor Doom and the Fantastic Four, there’s a palpable excitement among fans about the potential appearance of Robert Downey Jr.’s character in “First Steps.
As a diehard fan, I’d heard whispers about Chris Evans potentially reprising his role as Captain America in the upcoming movie, Doomsday. Yet, Evans himself quashed that gossip, making it clear he wouldn’t be part of the film. Still, some fans cling to hope, recalling how Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield initially denied reprising their Spider-Man roles for Spider-Man: No Way Home. To our joy, they weren’t telling the truth, leading to a massive celebration among fans worldwide.
Initially, Benedict Cumberbatch stated that he would not appear in “Doomsday”. However, he later changed his stance and confirmed his role in the movie. At present, it appears that the definitive cast list is yet to be decided.
