I’m thrilled to share that a fresh, six-episode thriller titled “Maya” has been announced by Channel 4. This gripping series is the brainchild of Daisy Haggard, star of Breeders, and Two Brothers Pictures, the production company behind The Tourist and Fleabag. I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us!
The narrative unfolds around mother Anna and her adolescent daughter Maya, who are compelled to abandon their existence in bustling London and assume fresh personas, settling instead in a tranquil, countryside location.
The summary for the show reveals that while trying to cope with their new circumstances, characters are tormented by ghosts of their past and a pair of ominous assassins create an unsettling atmosphere. As they investigate the disappearance of a mother and daughter, it appears that a menacing figure from their history still poses a significant risk.
Maya delves into themes such as personal identity, harmful male attitudes, extreme measures taken by parents for their children’s safety, and maintains a distinctively humorous yet ominous mood.
In their journey through this unfamiliar realm, a query persists: Will the system ensure their safety, can they find absolute security, or will they be compelled to take drastic measures for self-preservation?
