In a remarkable turn of events, PUBG: Battlegrounds (formerly known as PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds) has never seen greater financial success, according to its publisher Krafton. This South Korean company not only rescued Tango Gameworks, the studio behind Hi-Fi Rush, from potential oblivion but also raked in unprecedented profits from their ventures in 2024.
2017 marked the initial launch of PUBG, a game that became free-to-play in 2022. In the intervening year, 2024, saw an unprecedented peak of 890,000 simultaneous players on Steam. Eurogamer reported this figure. Total player spending in the game reached approximately £556 million. Additionally, the mobile spinoff, Battlegrounds Mobile India, attracted a significant number of new players, with sales rising by 35% compared to the previous year.
Krafton, as expected, plans to continue nurturing PUBG indefinitely and expand its player base on mobile platforms. They aim to acquire a major new intellectual property (IP) and appear ready to invest heavily in the upcoming Hi-Fi Rush project; it seems that the company’s future is promising, without a doubt.
Have you occasionally play PUBG lately? Or is it your go-to game that you’ve consistently played without a break? To enhance your chances of staying alive in the game, try avoiding high-risk landing spots when playing.
