Travis Kelce is still reeling from his Super Bowl loss.
Because numerous NFL fans are questioning whether this season might mark his retirement, the Kansas City Chiefs’ tight end is not rushing to make any immediate decisions.
In a recent episode of our podcast, New Heights, I addressed my brother Jason Kelce about the question on everyone’s mind: will I be playing next year? At this moment, I’m simply postponing all major decisions, pushing every concern down the road, and not making any rash choices.
Travis, who’s spent his entire pro career with the Chiefs, went on to say, “At the moment, my focus is primarily on supporting my teammates and coaches. I understand that there are numerous aspects to this game, and I’ve been lucky over the past five to six years to play more football than most. This is due to the incredible people within our organization.
This is not to say, however, that the sport doesn’t take its toll.
Travis mentioned that since we consistently reach the AFC Championships and Super Bowls, it means I’m playing an additional three games compared to everyone else in the league. This extra playtime equates to more strain on the body and more time invested in the facility, concentrating on improving skills and overcoming challenges. This ongoing process can be quite demanding.
He went on to clarify, “It might boost you up or push you over the edge. This year, it’s been more like the latter for me. I believe it occurs when you’re nearing the final stages of your professional journey, towards the end of your career.
The athlete, whose connection with Taylor Swift brought more spotlight on him last year, likewise acknowledged the challenging truth that achieving success may not resemble its previous form, labeling it as a hard truth to accept.
To ensure my return is meaningful and impactful, I’ve decided to take some time to reflect and make an informed decision. It’s crucial that if I do come back, it’s with complete dedication to my teammates – no half-measures. I want to be fully present, contributing my best, and I believe I still have the ability to play. However, the question remains whether the motivation is there, or if it’s the wisest choice for me as an individual, considering the responsibilities that come with the role.
And, no matter what decision he makes, he knows he’ll have the support of the Chiefs team.
After the Super Bowl, Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City’s quarterback, informed reporters that he would leave it up to Travis to decide his own course of action. He has contributed so much to our team and the NFL, not just making it a pleasure for me to work with him, but also for spectators to enjoy watching.
Patrick emphasized, ‘He’s got a deep affection for the sport.’ He’s got the freedom to think it over and consult his family, but when he decides to return, we’ll be more than happy to welcome him back. We appreciate him not just as a player, but as the exceptional individual he is day in and day out.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t get enough of the thrilling moments from Super Bowl LIX! The Philadelphia Eagles triumphed over the Kansas City squad in an epic showdown. If you haven’t already, dive back into the action and relive every heart-pounding second!
