Travis Kelce is taking his Super Bowl loss like a champ.
Following their defeat against the Philadelphia Eagles at the Super Bowl held in New Orleans on February 9th, the 35-year-old took some time to contemplate the match.
On the New Heights podcast, alongside my brother Jason Kelce, I expressed my heartfelt gratitude to my teammates on Feb 12th. The tireless effort, unwavering focus, and hard work they consistently demonstrate is truly commendable. However, it wasn’t these qualities that made me feel so confident going into the game. In fact, I had never felt more confident heading into a Super Bowl, a playoff game, or any significant contest in my career. Regrettably, despite my high spirits, things didn’t go as planned on that day. It simply wasn’t our day.
As he noted, the Chiefs ultimately “couldn’t find a lick of momentum.”
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but replay moments from the field, regretting minor choices I made, striving to exceed my assigned role during plays. To put it frankly, I wasn’t the inspiring leader I could have been in rallying my team and maintaining their composure. A significant portion of that responsibility lies with me, a seasoned veteran who’s witnessed football for 12 years within these walls.
Wow, you know, it’s almost surreal to find myself in a similar predicament as the Tampa Bay team during the Super Bowl. It’s a bitter pill to say the least, buddy.
Initially, Travis, Patrick Mahomes, and the Chiefs aimed to achieve an unprecedented three straight NFL titles. However, their bid was thwarted by the Eagles in a 40-22 match inside the Superdome. Unfortunately for Travis, the game’s plays didn’t go his way.
He explained that it wasn’t about following the play instructions specifically, but rather a collective failure of everyone to find a solution. To experience this happening on such a grand stage twice in his career is disheartening, especially as it’s a stark reminder of reality. It’s a tough pill to digest.
The tight end also shared that football “can humble you so fast.”
He went on to say, “It’s capable of propelling you to the moon, yet it can also bury you. Sometimes, things don’t go as expected. Even when we’ve managed to find a way, I often ponder if we could have done things differently. However, in retrospect, it seems that whatever happened was destined to occur.
Jason, who shares the experience of falling short in a Super Bowl, offered words of comfort to his younger sibling.
The 37-year-old commented on the Chiefs’ impressive consecutive victories before their recent loss, saying: “Your journey and streak of wins is truly remarkable. It might have been disheartening to witness this game, given how overwhelmingly the Eagles dominated it, but in truth, it’s part of one of the most extraordinary runs ever seen in this sport. Your legacy within this game is now set in stone and no one can erase it.
Despite praising his brother as one of the greatest players in history, Jason couldn’t help but feel the painful aftermath of Travis’ departure.
The Late Night host sympathized with Travis, “I truly understand how you’re feeling. Losing a Super Bowl is just awful. I wouldn’t want anyone to go through that misery. Regardless of who wins or loses, for the past week, I’ve been anticipating a sense of disappointment, and I can empathize more with the losing team because I know what it feels like. It’s simply terrible.
