This summer, the much-loved “How to Train Your Dragon” movie series is getting a new lease of life as a live-action version. Universal Studios, along with franchise director Dean DeBlois, are working on this project. In June, cinemas everywhere will screen the revamped adaptation of “How to Train Your Dragon”. Movie enthusiasts now have a clearer picture of what the eagerly awaited transformation will entail.
On Wednesday morning, Universal unveiled the official trailer for “How to Train Your Dragon”. It appears to be a very close replica of the initial animated film, scene by scene. Here’s a sneak peek at the video above!
In today’s Hollywood, live-action remakes have become quite common, and the upcoming “How to Train Your Dragon” is one that has stirred some optimism due to the continuity in the director’s role. Yet, the idea of a direct remake of an adored film might not be overly enticing. Frankly, many shots from the trailer appear to be faithful recreations of scenes from the original animated film, even down to the dialogue.
In essence, what I’m trying to convey is that trailers don’t always give an accurate portrayal of a film, because their main purpose is to entice audiences to go to the cinema. It could be that they included only similar scenes in the trailer to pique the interest of fans of the animated movie.
Alongside the plotline, there’s a bit of consistency among the characters too. While many of the actors in the How to Train Your Dragon series are newcomers, Gerard Butler returns to his character, Stoick, who is both Hiccup’s father and the chief of Berk.
Discussing “Den of Thieves 2: Pantera” with ComicBook, Butler shared insights on his role in transitioning the animated character Stoick into live-action.
As a fan, I found it to be a blend of various elements – a dash of peculiarity, yet a torrent of excitement, challenge, and anticipation. Butler shared this with us, explaining that when creating the animated films, he often wondered what it would be like to embody the characters himself – their voices, expressions, and movements. Little did I know, they were asking him to do just that! The task was daunting, making the character towering and powerful, yet avoiding an over-the-top caricature. This allowed audiences to delve into the different layers of the character’s personality and his bond with his son.
He went on to say, ‘What’s great about filmmaking is not just imagining those worlds, but living in them for real.’ It’s like diving into stories we create ourselves, and that’s exciting. Of course, ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ serves as a fantastic illustration of entering such immersive worlds.
How to Train Your Dragon hits theaters on June 13th.
