Jason Kelce has nothing but brotherly love for Travis Kelce.
During Super Bowl LIX, the host of “They Call It Late Night” showed strong emotion and unequivocally declared his backing for the Kansas City Chiefs player, disproving allegations that he was merely a fan of his old team, the Philadelphia Eagles, instead.
The 37-year-old expressed on the New Heights podcast with Travis on Feb. 12 that it was a strange experience, given his expectation of strangeness from the outset. As the days passed, things only grew more peculiar. He’s deeply connected to the organization and team he’s spent his entire career with, having shared challenges and camaraderie with many people there – coaches, friends, and teammates. This bond makes the situation incredibly emotional for him.
He went on to say, “On the contrary, it’s your brother we’re talking about here.” He’s been on your side all along. He’s always rooted for your success, and he truly wished for you to triumph in this game. I believe I’ve made that point clear.
Travis had no doubt about big brother’s support interjecting, “You made that clear to me.”
Jason subsequently found himself compelled to emotionally express his side of things, following the criticism he faced from supporters when the Chiefs lost to the Eagles with a score of 40-22.
Jason explained, “It was challenging to express myself because I’ve got folks on both the Eagles and the Chiefs teams whom I care for. I tried to show my support for you, but it seemed like no matter what I said, some people would twist it to believe I was supporting the Eagles, while others would misunderstand me as backing the Chiefs or Travis.
Travis admitted that his sibling had a strong bond with the city of Philadelphia, having spent 13 years as a member of the Eagles team before retiring in 2024. However, Jason felt disgruntled due to the incorrect assumptions people held about their family’s ties to the city.
Jason expressed his feelings through tears, saying, ‘Supporting you wasn’t overshadowed by my dislike of this game. It was extremely difficult to watch. I wanted both teams to win, and I knew I would feel joy and sorrow, regardless of the outcome.’
During the game, Travis found solace in the presence of girlfriend Taylor Swift, as well as his parents Donna and Ed Kelce. He made it clear to his brother that his loyalty was unwavering.
87 responded, “There’s no need for you to clarify anything. I recognize who Jason Kelce is, and I am well aware of my brother and his motives. No one could possibly mistake that.
Travis added, “You can still be happy for somebody, and you can still be sad for somebody.”
In the end, it was Jason, eagerly anticipating his fourth child with his wife Kylie Kelce, who succinctly expressed his mixed emotions regarding the game.
Jason expressed that he had mixed feelings about the Eagles’ victory; on one hand, he was joyful for them, but on the other, he felt miserable throughout the game. He didn’t relish in their success like before. In fact, it felt strange to him not to cheer. Overall, it was a strange and unsettling emotion for him.
