It looks like Stephen “tWitch” Boss’ family rift may reach new heights.
After the publication of his widow Allison Holker‘s memoir “This Far,” which includes several shocking accusations about the former Ellen DeGeneres Show star, Stephen’s mother Connie Boss Alexander has revealed that they intend to pursue a lawsuit against her.
In a recent Instagram post on February 12th, Connie stated, “Since Allison’s memoir contains statements that have not been proven, we are consulting with legal experts to investigate this issue further. We have many lingering questions and we aim to get the answers.
In the message, Connie expressed her family’s shock over the deceptive narratives and contradictions found in the memoir that was published on February 5th.
In discussing our family, I pointed out that we’ve consistently demonstrated kindness towards Allison, even though her behavior has been disrespectful and evasive since the loss of Stephen. It seems that her depiction of Stephen is rewriting his story in a way that fits her own viewpoint.
Connie also mentioned that Allison, who has children Weslie (age 16), Maddox (age 8), and Zaia (age 6) with Stephen, had inflicted “unwarranted pain” with her accusations following the demise of the TV personality.
She declared that Stephen should not receive such harsh treatment, whether alive or dead. Her statements make us question everything she’s said, both in public and private.
TopMob News has reached out to Allison’s rep for comment but has not heard back.
In the book “This Far“, Allison claimed that Stephen, who tragically took his own life in December 2022 at the age of 40, was found to have a large amount of drugs at home after his death. This claim has been disputed publicly by his mother.
In the interview with Gayle King on CBS Mornings (Feb 11), Connie stated that she doesn’t think there was an issue or problem of the type people might be referring to. However, she appreciates discussing mental health awareness since something was indeed happening towards the end that we were not aware of.
She added, “If the purpose of the book was to alert readers, here’s a more universal way to express it without disrespecting the reputation or the lasting impact he created for his descendants.
In response to the backlash over her choice to release her memoir, Allison defended herself by stating that she did so “with the intention of aiding others.
In a post on her Instagram Stories in January, she expressed that if you choose to read the book, it’s her hope that you’ll understand her aim was to honor the love and life she lived with Stephen and their three wonderful kids.
For more on what Holker had to say in her book, keep reading.
In her memoir “This Far“, Allison Holker recounted the moment she distanced herself from her church during high school and faced criticism from her community.
She penned, “I felt I was a wretched person and that God despised me.” At seventeen, an event so harrowing occurred that it appeared to reinforce the harsh judgments people had made about her.
Allison chose not to divulge specifics about the incident, but mentioned that “the consequences echoed throughout my life.”
“An inner voice kept whispering that it was my divine retribution for abandoning faith,” she continued, “a notion I now realize was a grave mischaracterization of God.”
Desiring to move past the event, Allison opted to keep it concealed.
“In hindsight, I wish I had taken action,” she confessed. “I empathize profoundly with those in comparable situations who are too fearful to speak up. I hope by acknowledging my regrets, I inspire others to assert themselves.”
Allison recently delved deeper into her experience in an interview on the Jan. 27 episode of The Jamie Kern Lima Show. She explained, “An older man exploited the vulnerability that women often face, particularly within the dance community where we revere our mentors and blindly trust them. Dance can be both physically and sexually demanding, even at a young age. That vulnerability was manipulated.
After Allison participated in season two of So You Think You Can Dance and Stephen “tWitch” Boss reached second place in season four, they reconnected during season seven in 2010. However, it wasn’t on the show where they first met; instead, their paths crossed five years earlier at a party hosted by Allison’s dance partner from season two, Ivan Koumaev.
Allison recalled, “Season 7 is when we formally met, but technically that’s not accurate.” The pair was introduced during the party by one of Ivan’s friends in the hip-hop scene. “Hey, I’m tWitch,” he said. “That’s cute,” Allison replied, asking for his real name. He introduced himself as Stephen Boss.
Despite their initial meeting, it wasn’t love at first sight. Allison found Stephen’s appearance overwhelming, with fishnet tops displaying nipple piercings and a mohawk hairstyle. “His outfit was too much for this Utah girl,” she admitted. However, their shared passion for dance eventually brought them closer together.
In the early stages of their relationship, a significant encounter took place between Allison and Stephen. As she put it in her book “This Far”, they had initially met during the Glee Live! In Concert tour when Stephen was part of the opening act. They were exploring the arena during one of his shows in Dublin when things started to heat up.
She reminisced about how they found themselves on a scaffold above the stage, kissing passionately. This unexpected moment soon escalated, leading them to be in a compromising position. A security guard nearly caught them in the act but they managed to keep their laughter in check until he was out of sight. After ensuring the coast was clear, they quickly got dressed and re-entered the concert crowd. Allison admitted that it was one of the most exhilarating experiences she had ever had.
In 2013, Allison and Stephen exchanged their vows, with Weslie, born in 2008 from Allison’s previous relationship, already part of their family. Later, they added Maddox (born in 2016) and Zaia (born in 2019) to their brood.
Their social media platforms showcased snippets of their lives, featuring dance parties, Halloween costumes, and daily routines at home. However, Allison speculated that social media might have added stress for Stephen towards the end.
She penned, “He felt we should always portray the ideal family image, which was unattainable.” She also suggested that the increasing adoration for his cheerful personality led to pressure.
“As his fan base expanded rapidly,” she wrote, “he struggled to step out in public without being praised for his upbeat demeanor, loving appearances, and the positive vibes he radiated. This must have been exhausting for him.”
However, Allison emphasized that the joyful moments depicted in their videos were authentic.
“Stephen was navigating a complicated emotional terrain,” she added. “He oscillated between genuine happiness and deep sadness, switching as if his emotions were controlled by a dimmer switch.
Following 19 seasons, “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” came to an end in May 2022, a bittersweet moment for Stephen who served as both DJ and later, executive producer. He felt sad to depart from his second ‘home’, but also viewed it as an opportunity to relinquish his deejay role and venture into new, more ambitious projects. While he would have loved to succeed Ellen as the host, discussions with the network were unsuccessful. Stephen was disappointed, but in typical tWitch fashion, he framed it positively.
The show’s end didn’t create instability because Stephen wasn’t unemployed. They had numerous projects lined up. However, it did cause a change in Stephen’s routine. For nine years, the show provided his days with structure and rhythm. No longer tied to a schedule, Stephen found himself with more time to explore the depths of his mind. The turmoil he had suppressed while portraying cheerful tWitch started resurfacing. Internal struggles that he had masked during his daily performances began to emerge.
According to Allison, Stephen also became more irritable, suffered from insomnia, and lost interest in work, socializing with friends, and participating in activities he previously enjoyed.
Based on Allison’s book, Stephen embarked on a journey to discover ayahuasca, a substance known for causing intense hallucinations and deep introspection. His intention was to deal with the stress of being a father, grapple with his lack of father figures in his life, and confront feelings of abandonment. However, things didn’t go as planned, and he had a friend pick him up early. Allison mentioned that the ideal duration for such experiences is three to seven days, followed by weeks of supervision by the shaman. Stephen returned home after less than 12 hours and resumed his work, which might have worsened his situation. Allison also stated that ayahuasca can aggravate underlying mental health issues if not closely monitored. As a former contestant on Dancing With the Stars, she noted that Stephen seemed different afterward, with an altered demeanor that was no longer joyful or generous. Instead, he appeared to wake up every day in a bad mood. He wasn’t angry or rude to people; he just seemed agitated.
In “This Far”, Allison disclosed her findings about the rumored drug use of Stephen, which she initially only suspected was marijuana use. However, she admitted that she was unaware Stephen was almost always under the influence. It was even discovered he was secretly smoking on the set of “Ellen”. To the best of her knowledge, this remained a hidden fact from everyone else.
Later, while going through his phone app, Allison noticed he frequented one of the local dispensaries every single night.
After Stephen’s demise in December 2022, she recalled, she was sorting through his wardrobe to select a pair of his cherished sneakers for his funeral service.
“What I unearthed was more than just shoes,” she penned. “There were sealed bags containing psychedelic mushrooms – some were full, some were partially empty, and a few contained only one or two mushrooms. There were other substances that I had to research on my phone. It was a veritable treasure trove of drugs. I was taken aback.”
An autopsy obtained by TopMob News in May 2023 revealed Stephen had no trace of drugs or alcohol in his system at the time of his passing.
Three days before Stephen took his own life at the age of 40 on Dec. 13, 2022, he and Allison celebrated their ninth wedding anniversary with a trip to Laguna Beach, California.
During their weekend away, they talked about having more children, bought a sculpture together, and she played for him a song she wrote titled “Better Together.” In response, he gave her a black Prada suit.
Now, Allison ponders, “The questions that arise are countless. Did he buy me the black Prada suit so I’d have something stylish to wear to his funeral? And if he did, was it a final romantic gesture or simply a sign of his confusion and distress?
In Allison’s book, she narrates the final encounter her family had with Stephen before he went missing. Upon returning from dropping Maddox to school, they found Stephen conversing with their assistants and nannies, about to drive Weslie to class. As they were leaving, Allison recalled saying, “See you. Love you,” without even bidding him goodbye.
After picking up coffee at Starbucks, Stephen took Weslie to school and mentioned, “I wish I could have been your Superman.” Weslie seemed unfazed by this strange comment, chalking it up as a typical father’s quirk. They exchanged their usual “I love you” before Stephen drove away from the school parking lot – the last time Allison would see him. The fact that Stephen was already saying goodbye in his own way hours earlier haunts her to this day.
Later, Stephen didn’t show up at the gym or office as planned but still responded to messages regarding a video shoot scheduled for the following day. In the afternoon, Allison noticed his car in their driveway, only to realize he was not home.
In her book, Allison recounts her attempts to reach Stephen, receiving no response. This prompted her to contact his assistant, brother, friends, and hospitals, eventually filing a missing persons report. Although Allison initially believed that Stephen might have checked into a rehabilitation center, the police later informed her that he had taken his own life on December 13, 2022.
“I let out a bloodcurdling scream as I ran down the hallway,” she wrote. “The noise that escaped from my throat was primal.”
Stephen’s funeral service took place in January 2023. In her book, Allison mentioned that there were points of disagreement regarding the service, such as his family wanting an open casket. Eventually, she permitted a few close family members to view the open casket before it was closed for the rest of the service, with a stipulation that no pictures or videos could be taken due to concerns they might leak online.
In her words, Allison stated that at the suggestion of her lawyers, she insisted that everyone who viewed the open casket should sign a confidentiality agreement to uphold Stephen’s privacy. This request reportedly frustrated his family. They responded, “If we have to sign NDAs, then everyone has to sign NDAs.”
The book also mentions a funeral the following day and a Celebration of Life event, at which Allison, Weslie, Ellen DeGeneres, Loni Love, and Wayne Brady were among the speakers during the memorial in February.
In August 2023, Dré Rose, Stephen’s brother, expressed worry in a message about the treatment of their mother and family, which has deeply troubled us.
Dré further explained in an Instagram post that this issue appears to originate from the disagreement within the family regarding the terms of the Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) presented for signing.
Moreover, Dré mentioned that interactions between Weslie, Maddox, and Zaia with Stephen’s relatives have been significantly reduced.
In her book, Allison revealed that members of Stephen’s family had criticized her on social media for handling the funeral, for the NDAs, and for not attending a Boss family reunion she hadn’t even been invited to. However, she stated that she tried to show understanding towards a woman who gave birth to the love of her life.
Allison also denied accusations of keeping the children away, explaining that she arranged for Stephen’s mother to travel from Arizona to California and back for a school event dedicated to grandparents, had the kids communicate with her via FaceTime, and even sent photos.
Furthermore, Allison claimed that someone within Stephen’s family, whom she chose not to name, blamed her for his death. This individual later apologized, but Allison noted that their words would never be forgotten.
In “This Far”, Allison mentioned that she read through Stephen’s journal following his passing. Some of his entries hinted at sexual abuse he suffered as a child, which was inflicted by an adult male, according to her writings. This traumatic experience, he had shared in strict confidence with his friend, was disclosed to Allison only after Stephen’s death.
Despite their high-profile dancing careers, social media popularity, and commercial endorsements, it was widely believed that Stephen and Allison didn’t have financial concerns. However, in her book, Allison shared a contrasting narrative.
She clarified, “Contrary to the assumption, I did not inherit Stephen’s wealth.” The truth, she revealed, was starkly different. He had given away large amounts of money to relatives and friends, squandered funds on drugs and peculiar art collections, leaving me with a million-dollar tax bill in the year he passed away. Both I and the accountant who broke the news were taken aback by this revelation.
Allison explained that paying off this debt drained his accounts. Furthermore, Stephen’s suicide left her in breach of contract with specific business partners. Some brands withdrew their support, and she was left to catch up on outstanding bills.
However, Allison seemed to counter accusations that she was merely capitalizing on the book’s release for monetary gain. She announced on her Instagram Stories post dated January 8, 2025, “All proceeds from this book will be donated to Move With Kindness, the mental health focused foundation I established in Stephen’s memory.” Her intention, she expressed, was to ensure that no other spouse, brother, father, or friend loses their life to suicide.
After Stephen’s passing, Allison has continued to sense his spirit—even in her dreams. She recounted one dream in “This Far”, two days after his death, as a “slideshow of memories” followed by darkness. Upon waking, she was shaking and the room seemed to move like a stage set. A face appeared, resembling the full moon, that shifted into three faces, only one of which was familiar—it was Stephen. He said, “I’m sorry. I love you.”
After awakening from this dream, Allison felt a sense of tranquility. She penned, “Though my husband no longer physically existed, for the first time since his demise, I could feel his presence. ‘Thank you, my love,’ I expressed, ‘for providing me with comfort.’
In her book, Allison candidly shared her complex feelings about her late husband, who was a loving and influential figure in their lives. She expressed sadness over his untimely departure, anger at how he passed away, yet still held him close to her heart. She warned against romanticizing anyone who takes their own life, but acknowledged that it’s possible to feel strong negative emotions about the act while maintaining deep love and empathy for the person involved.
Allison emphasized that it was essential for her to move forward. She explained that she no longer communicates with him as she did during the first year of his absence, and this is acceptable. She noted that the family is gradually detaching from the trauma that bound them to him, finding comfort in believing he watches over them, but relying less on him than before. A year ago, she couldn’t envision a clear path forward, but now she can see it more clearly.
