At the “Next on Netflix” press event, Netflix revealed a collection of upcoming live-action Japanese series, with the standout title being the third season of “Alice in Borderland,” marking the first time in a while that a Japanese live-action show has made it to its third season. In addition to this, other announced live-action shows include a film adaptation of the Yaoi manga “10DANCE,” which follows two male dance competitors who eventually fall for one another. The production of this live-action series was officially announced in November 2024 and is scheduled for release in 2025, but unfortunately, fans will have to wait until December to stream it on Netflix, meaning a full year of anticipation.
The upcoming live-action movie titled “10DANCE” will feature Ryoma Takeuchi from the series “Roppongi Class“, and Keita Machida, known for his role in the live-action “Yu Yu Hakusho” series. The director of popular live-action anime shows such as “Rurouni Kenshin” and “March Comes In Like a Lion“, Keishi Otomo, will be directing the “10DANCE” film for Netflix. This movie is part of Netflix’s commitment to expanding live-action anime content. The streaming giant is currently producing the successful live-action “One Piece” show and has recently acquired rights to stream the recent live-action adaptation of “Golden Kamuy“. Asian-based shows, particularly Korean dramas, have become some of Netflix’s most popular offerings. With its potential, “10DANCE” could be Netflix’s next major hit towards the end of this year.
What is 10DANCE About?
10DANCE is a drama series that’s branded as a manga focusing on gay romance, often referred to as BL or Yaoi. This manga tells the tale of two professional dancers, Shinya Sugiki and Shinya Suzuki, who happen to share the same name. Sugiki excels in ballroom dancing, while Suzuki is proficient in Latin dance. Initially, these two men are fierce rivals within their profession. They both participate in the 10-Dance Competition with aspirations of being crowned champion. However, as the story unfolds, they discover each other’s strengths and a bond develops between them.
10DANCE isn’t just a dance manga; it’s equally a sports story about dancing. The comic delves deep into various dance styles and treats it with the same dedication as any other sport. It subtly incorporates elements from real-life dancing, providing readers an authentic glimpse into the realm of dance. Since manga lacks motion to depict the fluidity of character movements, a live-action film would perfectly showcase the dance mechanics in 10DANCE.
