Recently, Capcom has given us a more detailed sneak peek at the game Onimusha: Way of the Sword, which was initially unveiled during The Game Awards. The latest trailer introduced the main character of this dark fantasy action game – it’s Miyamoto Musashi, a historical figure well-known in Japan. In the game, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Musashi is depicted as a young and fierce samurai. Through an unusual turn of events, he comes to possess an Oni Gauntlet and engages in combat against numerous demonic Genma.

In the character design, Musashi bears a striking resemblance to Toshiro Mifune, the legendary Japanese movie star who brought Musashi to life on screen in timeless samurai movies. The game Onimusha: Way of the Sword unfolds in Kyoto, a city that has been tainted by sinister clouds of Malice, calling forth Hell onto the realm of the living, causing turmoil and chaos throughout feudal Japan’s capital. Wielding an Oni Gauntlet, Musashi is imbued with abilities surpassing those of ordinary humans, enabling him to vanquish creatures from the underworld, such as Byakue, a menacing axe-wielder whose power amplifies when its blade is drenched in blood.

In a span close to two decades, the Onimusha series has produced its first fresh installment titled Onimusha: Way of the Sword. This game masterfully combines historical and mythical elements with advanced combat mechanics. The core of the game lies in thrilling sword-on-sword encounters, where strategic slicing through adversaries is crucial, as well as the suspenseful choice of when to seize an enemy’s soul during the heat of battle.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword is due out for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam in 2026.
