Despite My Hero Academia concluding its decade-long run in the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine last year, one of the defining series from the 2010s, the mastermind behind the story has resurrected Tomura Shigaraki with a sinister new appearance. The battle between Izuku Midoriya and Shigaraki, which defined the heroic saga, reached its climax, propelling young Midoriya and his comrades from Class 1-A into the future. Now, the creator has reintroduced their most formidable adversary once more.
In the anime “My Hero Academia”, Tomura Shigaraki was the primary adversary that protagonist Deku had to confront and defeat throughout the series. Even though All For One may have been a more powerful antagonist in the grand scheme of things, Shigaraki held this role for much of the show’s run. Now that the series has concluded, creator Kohei Horikoshi can spend more time contemplating the characters and has recently shared a chilling new sketch of Shigaraki on social media. The image depicts a previously unseen appearance for the villain, which fans can view below.

My Hero Academia Isn’t Over Just Yet
Although the manga of My Hero Academia concluded its ten-year run in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine last year, the franchise is far from over. The anime adaptation will also come to an end with Season 8, and while the eighth and final season has yet to announce a specific release date for the concluding episodes, it promises to be quite an exciting journey. Stay tuned!
Last year when My Hero Academia Season 7 concluded, it left viewers hanging with two significant battles yet to be resolved. The finale saw All Might in his special battle armor squaring off against All For One, and Deku facing Shigaraki. Although these battles are just getting started, there’s still plenty more ground to cover in the final season as we delve deeper into their outcomes before the series can reach its ultimate conclusion.
What’s Next for My Hero Academia?
In addition to the upcoming new release for “My Hero Academia,” we can also anticipate the official anime adaptation of “My Hero Academia: Vigilantes.” The series, set to premiere on April 7th, is part of the Spring 2025 anime schedule. Unlike the main series, it takes place years before its events and focuses on a group of unauthorized heroes who unexpectedly save their town, as the pro heroes are not as widespread in this time period compared to how they appear in the main anime later on.
The upcoming anime titled “My Hero Academia” will be steered by Kenichi Suzuki of Bones Film. Yosuke Kuroda, known for his work on the main “My Hero Academia” TV series, will pen the scripts. Meanwhile, Takahiko Yoshida and Yuki Hayashi are set to oversee character designs and music respectively, with Shogo Yamashiro and Yuki Furuhashi also contributing to the music. This installment is special because it showcases returning heroes from “My Hero Academia” at an earlier stage in their careers. Kenta Miyake will voice All Might, Junichi Suwabe as Eraserhead, Hiroyuki Yoshino as Present Mic, Akeno Watanabe as Midnight, and Masamichi Kitada as Ingenium, who is expected to have a larger role than in the original series.
