Returnal Developer Announces Saros as Next Game

It’s high time for a revisit to the bullet-filled chaos, PlayStation enthusiasts! Wrapping up the State of Play broadcast, Housemarque, the developers behind the game “Returnal“, have unveiled their upcoming project: “Saros”. Although the trailer was brief, it provided some intriguing plot details, a confirmation of Returnal’s distinctive gameplay style, and the familiar visage attached to its main character. Since 2022, Housemarque has been hinting at a new intellectual property, and now we have insight into what they’ve been working on. The game isn’t expected to launch this year but is confirmed for release in 2026 exclusively on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro.

In a CGI preview for the game Saros, we’re introduced to a foreboding, future-set environment, where the planet Carcosa resides. An impending eclipse casts an ominous shadow over this world, and it’s the responsibility of a valiant Soltari Enforcer named Arjun Devraj to unravel its mysteries. As you navigate through Carcosa, armed with intense gunplay and overcoming obstacles, you also encounter the resurgence of the roguelike death mechanic. Your goal is simply to survive, no matter how many attempts it requires.

In the upcoming series Saros, the main character Arjun will be played by Rahul Kohli, who is recognized for his roles in iZombie, Midnight Mass, and The Fall of the House of Usher. He was also among the top contenders to play Mr. Fantastic in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which ended up being given to Pedro Pascal from The Last of Us. Kohli has also appeared in video games such as Gears 5, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Fortnite, and Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical. Similar to the game Returnal, where Selene was played by Jane Perry (Hitman series, Baldur’s Gate 3), it seems that Kohli’s performance will be crucial as he might be the only real character in the title.

Previously noted, Housemarque is behind the highly-praised 2021 game, “Returnal”. This captivatingly difficult title was a sensation among gamers and critics alike, with ComicBook’s review stating it as one of the best games released in 2021 thus far, showcasing the capabilities of the PlayStation 5. Notably, this success helped Housemarque secure a place among PlayStation’s first-party studios, which is a positive development. Though details about a potential sequel to “Returnal” are scarce at the moment, the upcoming game “Saros” is expected to continue the spirit of its predecessor, undoubtedly pleasing fans.
