According to the latest State of Play presentation, Sony has released the financial results for the third quarter of its fiscal year 2025, revealing that a total of 75 million PS5 consoles have been shipped so far. During the period from October to December 31st, 2024, approximately 9.5 million units were shipped, representing a significant increase compared to the previous year’s figure of 1.3 million units.
Among other significant contributors, we see a rise in software sales for PS5 and PS4, amounting to 95.9 million units, which is 6.2 million more than the previous year. Nevertheless, first-party game sales declined by 4.6 million to reach 16.2 million. Interestingly, digital full-game downloads accounted for 74% of the total, marking a slight decrease of 3%.
It’s logical to expect that games like “Black Myth: Wukong” and the “Silent Hill 2” remake will play a significant role in the PlayStation console’s lineup during the second half of 2024, given their influence. Notably, Sony reported an increase in PlayStation Network users, now standing at 129 million monthly active users, up from 123 million in the last fiscal year.
Without enforced linking of accounts for certain PlayStation games, it will be intriguing to observe whether this figure decreases. Keep an eye out for future updates in the meantime.
