Presently, the storyline in the “One Piece” manga unfolds as the Elbaf Arc within the Final Saga, taking us to the legendary land of the Giants, where the crew has ventured after the tumultuous skirmish at Egghead. Accompanying the Giants, they’ve journeyed to Elbaf, a place that stands apart from any other island they’ve visited due to its independence from the World Government. The warm reception from the locals is unlike anything they’ve experienced on their travels. However, their peaceful stay on this new island has been disrupted by Shamrock and Gunko, who have infiltrated Elbaf with the intention of causing mischief. Their failed attempts to enlist Loki as a Holy Knight indicate that their plans may not go as smoothly as they anticipated.
Meanwhile, despite being unaware of it, Luffy persists in keeping his promise to Loki by rescuing him, as they had agreed that in return, Loki would share information about Shanks with Luffy. Zoro disapproves of this plan, but undeterred, Luffy presses on. In the course of freeing Loki, Luffy encounters one of history’s most renowned pirates – a character who was previously introduced in the manga, though the colored version may have obscured that hint.
Whoever colored this panel did a decades worth of gaslighting to Shiki fans

One Piece Manga Fooled Fans into Thinking Gaban Is Actually Shiki
In Chapter 631 of “One Piece,” the illustration shows Crocus and Gaban sharing a drink at Twin Cape in Reverse Mountain. For more than five decades, Crocus and Laboon have resided there. Since Gaban and Crocus were once comrades who navigated the oceans with Roger, the Pirate King, it’s plausible they would grab a drink if they ever crossed paths again. Interestingly, in the official artwork, Gaban was depicted with blonde hair instead of white.
Wearing a yellow and orange striped cloak over a straw hat, this figure on the cover undoubtedly appears to be Shiki. Known for his past with the Rocks Pirates and being the first inmate to break free from Impel Down independently, Shiki was initially referenced in Chapter 530 but has yet to debut in the manga. Notably, he plays the role of the main adversary in One Piece Film: Strong World, a movie not part of the official cannon storyline.
It was surprising to see Shiki, with his past actions and villainous nature, spending time with Crocus as if they were long-time companions. As the cover art was authentically produced by Shueisha, there were no questions about its authenticity. Fans continued to assume that the man depicted in Chapter 631 was actually Shiki until the truth was finally revealed in the latest Chapter 1139 of One Piece.
In Chapter 1139, it’s Gaban under the straw hat who resides in Elbaf. He encounters Luffy and his team. Their conversation revolves around Gaban’s history with Ripley. Gaban is taken aback by Luffy’s audacity, reminiscent of Roger’s style. Yet, Luffy intends to liberate Loki. Interestingly, Gaban is in charge of guarding Loki. He agrees to give the key only if Luffy can overcome him first.
