As a die-hard anime fan, I can’t contain my excitement about Hideaki Anno, the mastermind behind “Neon Genesis Evangelion,” stepping into the world of “Gundam“! You see, he’s not just known for the epic mech battles in his creations; he delves deep into the psychological struggles of the characters who pilot these robots. In a jaw-dropping turn of events, it was unveiled that this anime genius would be contributing to the Mobile Suit franchise, leaving fans reeling!
With the first compilation film hitting North American shores later this month and the television series debuting this spring, Anno has seized the moment to speak about his vision for this new series. He expresses his hope that it will breathe fresh life into the “Gundam” franchise, making us all eagerly await its arrival!
In his latest social media update, Anno himself shared insights about the fresh start for the story, mentioning that his team is working hard to build a “new wing” for the Gundam franchise. He explained that the initial visuals for the new series, titled “GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-“, might astound you with their stunning detail. However, he considers it more like an additional structure on the expansive property that is the Gundam universe. Instead of tearing down and extending the main building, they view this new creation as a separate wing adjacent to it.
Neon Gundam Evangelion
In addition to delving deeper into the topic of Gundam’s opening, Anno elaborated on his perspective about the Mobile Suit universe, stating that they strive to revitalize and expand Gundam, create a work that appeals to a wider audience, and explore new directions using a unique approach compared to previous works. With these goals in mind, I asked Tsurumaki to depict a prequel segment within a specific timeframe. I hope you enjoy the theatrical preview version, which is designed to function as a prequel from start to finish. Warm regards.
Gundam consistently captivates audiences by weaving compelling narratives through the use of mechs set within alternate timelines and unique Mobile Suit universes. To avoid spoilers, let’s talk about Gquuuuuux, a story that delves into the roots of the series and holds exciting revelations for long-time fans. Despite this upcoming tale, Gundam continues to develop numerous other projects behind the scenes.
The Gundam Universe Expands
As an observer, I’m thrilled to share that from the top of the horizon, the renowned anime series, Gundam, is diligently working on a long-anticipated sequel titled Hathaway’s Flash. This series revolves around the man who seems destined to follow in the footsteps of both Amuro and Char. In a recent announcement, the franchise has also kickstarted production on its live-action adaptation. Notably, Bandai Namco and Legendary Entertainment are joining forces to reimagine the epic tale of Gundam for a new generation. No matter which part of the Gundam universe you’re fond of, it appears that this franchise continues to offer something exciting for everyone.
