Top 7 Insider Tips for Mastering Avowed: Unlock Hidden Rewards and XP!

Obsidian Entertainment has just released what could be their best RPG yet (apologies to New Vegas fans). Journey through the Vibrant Realms to solve the enigma surrounding a fatal disease. Brace yourself for pulse-racing battles, expansive environments to traverse, and daring feats to accomplish. So, get ready!

During my journeys, I collected several pieces of knowledge. Regrettably, I wished I’d grasped these insights far earlier. In an effort to spare fellow adventurers from similar predicaments, I have compiled a list of the top 7 lessons I learned prior to embarking on Avowed.

Buy lockpicks (and grenades)

Throughout your adventure in Avowed, you’ll encounter numerous chests that are securely locked. To unlock these, you’ll require a lockpick tool. Besides stumbling upon them randomly in the game world, players have the option to purchase these items from local stores as well.

As a researcher in this field, let me assure you that these items are harder to come by than they appear and cannot be manufactured artificially. Therefore, I strongly advise you to scrutinize each vendor’s inventory for the elusive lockpicks. Trust me when I say, you won’t regret it later.

The best way to earn XP is through quests

Feel free to continue searching for treasures and miscellaneous items as you see fit, and keep it up! But if your primary goal is to accumulate experience, steer clear of prolonged battles for leveling up. It’s the least efficient method for advancement in this game.

The quickest approach involves primary and secondary missions, as well as taking on bounties. Completing bounties not only provides combat experience but also contributes to your mission progress. If you’re aiming to level up quickly, explore the main zones and cities, where you’ll encounter numerous NPCs engaged in casual conversations. Initiating a chat with these characters often leads to a side quest that awards easy experience points.

Pick everything up, I mean everything

This item seemed easy for me to grab since I tend to accumulate a lot, but some people pay great attention to every single item, even a potion. Don’t stress about managing your inventory; if you ever find yourself carrying too much or even before that happens, you have the option to transport everything to your camp.

Indeed, let me clarify this for you from my perspective as an analyst: Essentially, you have the ability to instantly move your acquired items to your camp, allowing you easy access upon your return to a campsite. So, set aside any concerns about gathering yet another spear – think of it more like adding to your collection in a game!

Items can be broken down, including upgraded ones

It took me a couple of hours into the game before I figured out that I could dismantle items. All the bows, pistols, and other common items I came across but didn’t need, I sold to the nearest vendor. Unfortunately, it wasn’t until later that I learned I could deconstruct them for additional upgrade materials instead.

Initially, I hesitated to invest in upgrades due to uncertainty about where to spend my resources. However, I later discovered that by dismantling an enhanced item, I would recover half of the primary material and all secondary components such as Paradisan Ladder. Therefore, don’t worry about upgrading. If you find yourself unsatisfied with your upgrade, you can often retrieve a significant portion of the materials you used.

Parkour! Jump around the map!

Explore by leaping across the terrain, scaling hills, structures, and anything climbable. You never know what hidden treasures you might stumble upon during your daring expeditions – often I uncover fresh routes, concealed items, or secret chests while venturing off the beaten path!

This applies to both cities and smaller towns, any flat area you come across. Sometimes, it might seem strange even for rocky surfaces, but that’s how I stumbled upon the Yellowband Camp, located to the East of Paradis. It was quite a perilous climb, so tread cautiously, but don’t let that deter you from practicing parkour!

Camping is free and grants full health and essence

Many individuals who plan on enjoying Avowed may have previously experienced Baldur’s Gate 3. It’s likely that the same group of players only set up camp when it was necessary. However, I strongly advise you to avoid that practice, if possible.

Instead, feel free to set up camp whenever it suits you best. You can use it much like a fast-travel point in games such as Skyrim or Witcher 3. An added advantage is that you can quickly transport back to where you were previously standing, which is particularly useful if you find yourself stranded just outside an enemy encampment. In such cases, a swift fast travel will allow you to recharge your resources.

Listen for chests

It’s quite noticeable if you listen closely: The soft, subtle sound of lockboxes and chests can be heard in their proximity. Even an attentive listener should find it relatively straightforward to detect this. Who would have guessed that being observant could prove beneficial?

Often, I departed from locations without spotting specific elevations or declivities. Upon conversing with a few of my peers, I found out that some protective gear sets and objects were overlooked. If I had merely focused on the sounds, I would have realized that an intriguing artifact was hidden and waiting to be uncovered.

Elements do more than the obvious

It turns out that various components have a multitude of functions. For instance, frost can freeze gates, fire burns through webs, and electricity powers essence generators. Although many of these uses are quite clear, there was one that took me aback, despite likely being previously detailed.

I discovered that frost can form land on water, making travel much easier – something I hadn’t realized before, until I encountered an inaccessible location. I couldn’t descend to it, jump to it, or swim up to it. I was stumped until I tried using an ice spell on the ground. Amazingly, it worked! I believe others may have overlooked this as well, which is why I’m leaving this message for you. Enjoy your discovery!

In combat, even your adversaries possess vulnerabilities related to elements. For instance, skeletons are susceptible to frost, while many creatures with a lot of flesh such as spiders and bears are vulnerable to fire. Keep this in mind during battles to gain an advantage, regardless of your character’s build. There is an abundance of weapons that exploit these elemental weaknesses, both for ranged and melee attacks, allowing you to cause chaos among your enemies.

Mark my words, I’ll be immersed in the world of Avowed come February 18, 2025, as it unfurls across Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC. Being an Xbox first-party game, the standard edition will grace the libraries of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers on day one itself. If you’re eager to dive in early, preorder the Premium Edition, and you’ll gain access a full week earlier, starting February 13.
