One Piece’s Elbaf Arc Reveals Red Line’s True Origin

The geography in the world of “One Piece” has been a baffling enigma, left largely unexplored for over two decades. From the mysterious Red Line that circles the globe vertically, to the peculiar Calm Belts and Grand Line dividing the four seas, the blue planet of “One Piece” is teeming with secrets. The Final Saga may provide some long-awaited answers for fans. Already, during the Egghead Arc, Vegapunk’s broadcast shed light on one significant mystery by revealing why the world of “One Piece” is composed entirely of scattered islands—it was submerged due to warfare during the Void Century. The upcoming Elbaf Arc might finally unveil the origins of the Red Line.

The recently unveiled messages from Harley in Elbaf might have validated a long-standing and popular fan speculation concerning the Red Line. This theory suggests that the Red Line could have been fabricated during or even prior to the Void Century in the world of One Piece, drawing inspiration from the Norse myth of Jörmungandr, a monstrous serpent believed to encircle the globe. In Chapter 1138, an intriguing first stanza penned by Harley describes the First World, and curiously mentions a “serpent of hellfire.” Instead of being a literal snake made of flames, this serpent may be symbolizing the Red Line in One Piece.

One Piece’s Harley Texts Reveal the Origins of the Red Line

In the Harley, the “earth god” and the “serpent of hellfire” are believed to have enveloped the world in death and darkness, preventing any encounter between the four seas’ inhabitants because of this division represented by the Red Line. The last sentence is open to interpretation, but it becomes clearer when considering that the serpent might symbolize the Red Line separating the peoples of the four seas, thus keeping them from meeting.

For a while now, fans have speculated that the Red Line might be derived from the Norse mythological creature Jörmungandr, the World Serpent. This giant serpent, as legend tells it, encircles the Earth or Midgard by biting its own tail, symbolizing the ancient Egyptian concept of Ouroboros, often depicted as a red serpent. When Jörmungandr releases its tail, it’s said to signal the onset of Ragnarök, an apocalyptic war. Some fans suggest that this aspect of Jörmungandr’s legend could be connected to the destruction of Red Line in the storyline of One Piece, a theory that ties into the Final Saga and Madam Sharley’s prophecy about Luffy destroying Fishman Island.

In addition, when readers are introduced to Dorry and Brogy in Little Garden for the first time, these two giants casually mention a “serpent drenched in blood.” Specifically, during Chapter 129, as Dorry and Brogy prepare to attack the giant goldfish that stands in the way of the Straw Hats, Dorry states that there’s only one thing they can’t penetrate – this blood-soaked serpent. This probably refers to the same fiery snake from the Harley, also known as the Red Line.

One Piece’s Red Line Destruction Theory Just Got More Solid

In essence, if the snake on Harley truly represents the Red Line, it could validate the widely-held theory that Luffy will eventually break the Red Line in the series One Piece. The Celestial Dragons residing within the strip make the Red Line a strong symbol of the World Nobles’ power, authority, and perceived divinity, as well as the World Government they represent. However, the creator of the earth god and the Red Line remains uncertain. Yet, the presence of the Red Line and the rise in sea levels during the Void Century seem to advantage Imu and the World Government by keeping the populace divided, thereby limiting their ability to unite against the World Government.

Embracing the spirit of defiance, shattering the Red Line would mark the beginning of our rebellion, a bold and undeniable declaration of conflict. This move not only symbolizes our readiness for war but also paves the way for the long-awaited reunion of the four seas’ people, as foretold in the ancient texts of Harley. And let’s not forget, Luffy, the chosen one carrying Sun God Nika’s will in One Piece, stands right at the heart of it all.
