More details about Leslie Charleson‘s tragic passing have come to light.
Approximately a month after the former star of General Hospital passed away at the age of 79, the Medical Examiner for Los Angeles County concluded that her death was due to complications from a previous head injury, as reported by TopMob News on February 13.
The medical examiner deemed her manner of death an accident, per the records.
Besides having a past skull injury, Leslie was also dealing with several health issues at the time of her death. Specifically, she had been diagnosed with asthma, arthritis, atrial fibrillation, and normal pressure hydrocephalus – a condition where fluid buildup in the brain’s ventricles, known as cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), is a common characteristic, according to Cleveland Clinic.
Actress who portrayed Monica Bard Webber/Monica Quartermaine on General Hospital for close to 50 years, tragically passed away on January 12th while under hospital care.
After her demise, the executive producer of the soap opera, Frank Valentini, shared his thoughts about the mark she made on the show, both in front of and behind the camera.
For almost half a century, Leslie has been an integral part of ‘General Hospital’. Just like Monica was the soul of the Quartermaines, Leslie was cherished as the matriarch of the entire cast and team.
Expressing his sorrow, he mentioned that he’d deeply miss their daily conversations with Leslie. Moreover, he admired her sharp humor and extraordinary performance on set. He extended his sincere condolences to her family and friends from the entire cast of General Hospital, during this challenging period.
Additionally, Charleson, who had the longest stint on “General Hospital” among all cast members, felt just as fortunate to be part of the drama series. As she expressed to “Soap Opera Digest” in 2001, “I truly do cherish this role.
Consider it from another angle: “Imagine starting your day by simply rising, stepping out of bed, choosing an outfit, and having someone else handle your appearance, communication, and wardrobe. Can you conceive a greater sense of gratitude?” She went on to say.
Charleson is survived by her sister, Kate Charleson.
