As a devoted fan, one of my all-time favorite moments from the original Bridget Jones’s Diary is when the charming Daniel Cleaver, played by Hugh Grant, takes an unexpected dip in the river after his boastful punting antics. In the latest film, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, it seems another character will be joining Daniel in a refreshing dunking!
On this occasion, it’s the character Roxster, portrayed by actor Leo Woodall from One Day, who finds himself needing a towel urgently. This is after he jumps into a pool in an attempt to rescue a distressed dog.
He grinned, indicating his agreement. “I found it incredibly enjoyable to participate,” he said. “But watching it back, with the music and everything, really made it special. Some of the reactions were quite amusing, too! Absolutely, it’s a moment I’d love to include in my demo reel.

In the movie, Woodall and Chiwetel Ejiofor portray fresh romantic interests for Bridget, yet unlike the love triangle between Daniel Cleaver and Mark Darcy from the initial two films, as director Michael Morris noted, it’s not an identical setup.
In simpler terms, he pointed out that one of the standout aspects of the initial movie was its ability to portray two characters who embody the essence of British culture yet are strikingly different from each other, which laid the foundation for the rest of the story.
This movie is quite unlike the other one, and it might be the one I’d single out when someone asks me, ‘What embodies a flawless love triangle?’
He went on to say: “This movie deviates from the typical love triangle structure. However, I aimed to portray two characters who embodied distinctly British personalities.
Indeed, Chiwetel embodies confidence, stability, and strength. He has a deep affection for nature, particularly the verdant landscapes of the Lake District. Moreover, he is not only an educator but also a diligent one in the field of science.
In Leo Woodall, you find an individual who exudes natural charm, youthfulness, and good looks, but there’s an unexpected twist – he’s quite goofy. Despite this difference in personality, she seems to connect with him effortlessly, as they don’t share the same type of character traits.
In response, both Ejiofor and Woodall confessed to experiencing some degree of pressure in portraying characters who were such renowned romantic figures from the initial movies.
Ejiofor acknowledged that there is indeed some pressure involved, but he quickly added that the group, under Renée’s leadership, is extremely inviting. He emphasized that Renée plays a significant role in creating the atmosphere for these films, making it a positive environment overall.
“And so it was joyful to kind of come on board and to sort of enter, it was really exciting.
I believe these characters are skillfully crafted, offering rich layers of meaning beneath the surface. There’s a wealth of complexity that makes them fascinating, providing plenty of opportunities for an engaging performance. In essence, I found it incredibly enjoyable and entertaining to work on them.
Woodall also shared: “I, too, felt the pressure, mostly self-imposed. However, when I got to the set and met everyone, especially Renee, I instantly felt comfortable, knowing it was going to be enjoyable.
For myself, it’s particularly significant to collaborate with Renee and Chiwetel, as well as sharing the screen with other talented actors from this production. It’s an extraordinary opportunity I cherish greatly.
