Captain America: Brave New World Ending Explained

*Warning: Major spoilers ahead for Captain America: Brave New World. *

As a dedicated movie enthusiast, I must confess that the arrival of “Captain America: Brave New World” was more of a quiet murmur than an explosive entrance. The initial responses from viewers have been underwhelming, and the film’s critical reception has left much to be desired.

In the movie, Anthony Mackie makes his debut as the new Captain America on the silver screen. His character, Sam Wilson, struggles with understanding the weight of the shield’s meaning and upholding the legacy left behind by his friend, Steve Rogers, portrayed by Chris Evans.

Throughout the journey, Harrison Ford exhibits an incredible display of strength akin to the Hulk, while Tim Blake Nelson’s character, Samuel Sterns/The Leader, orchestrates some manipulative mind games. We also meet our latest Falcon, Joaquín Torres, played by Danny Ramirez.

Here’s everything you need to know about how Captain America: Brave New World ended.

Captain America: Brave New World ending explained: What happens to President Thaddeus Ross?

In the opening scenes of “Brave New World,” I find myself gazing upon a world teetering on the edge of conflict, stirred by the revelation of the mystifying metal known as Adamantium and the enigmatic Celestial Island – echoes of the Eternals’ ancient tale.

President Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross from Ford is working on a global agreement concerning the fair allocation of Adamantium. He also mentioned offhandedly that Sam might work on reassembling The Avengers. This initial step sets up the plot for future films, including Secret Wars and Doomsday.

As a cinema enthusiast, let me recount an intriguing turn of events: When my buddy, war hero Isaiah Bradley (portrayed by Carl Lumbly), seemingly attempts to assassinate the President during a White House visit, the world erupts into pandemonium. Isaiah vehemently denies his involvement and I find myself on a mission to uncover the truth behind this shocking incident involving my friend.

The situation becomes even more complicated when it’s discovered that Ross had once entrusted his health to Dr. Samuel Sterns (portrayed by Tim Blake Nelson, reprising his role) following a heart attack – before imprisoning him. Later on, Sterns, whose deformed visage is due to a mishap involving gamma radiation, seeks retribution against Ross by drugging him with pills containing gamma radiation. These pills ultimately transform the President into the Red Hulk.

Beyond this, Sterns is determinedly working towards undermining Ross’s legacy and treaty. After many years of tinkering, he successfully manipulates men in the President’s inner circle using mind control, coming close to instigating a war on Earth which Sam and Joaquín narrowly prevent.

Additionally, we encounter Giancarlo Esposito’s ominous character Sidewinder, the King of the Serpent Society, who plays a significant role but ultimately takes a backseat. Simultaneously, our protagonist, Sam, grapples with the reality that he is not Steve Rogers, dealing with feelings of imposter syndrome – a struggle that goes largely unexplored. Moreover, we are introduced to the latest Falcon, Joaquín, who shares a pleasant dynamic with Sam.

Towards the finale of the movie, after an intense confrontation where Ford’s character, Ross, loses his temper spectacularly, the President agrees to serve time in prison, with Wilson making a visit to him at The Raft.

By receiving his punishment, he manages to regain some love from his distant daughter, Dr. Betty Ross, portrayed once more by Liv Tyler. Despite her downfall, the agreement still holds, implying for the moment that the world maintains its tranquility.

Joaquin, nearly losing his life following a dive into the Indian Ocean, regains consciousness at the hospital, engaging in a profound conversation with Sam about the price they both pay for their roles.

In a surprising turn of events, former Winter Soldier Bucky Barnes (played by Sebastian Stan) unexpectedly stops by to see Sam, and in doing so, gives him a warm embrace. Meanwhile, the character Isaiah finds himself walking out of prison under some unknown circumstances.

But what of Samuel Sterns?

Captain America: Brave New World post-credits scene explained: What does The Leader’s warning mean?

After the credits roll, a scene unfolds where Samuel Sterns/The Leader cautions Sam about impending dangers from multiple universes.

He tells him: “It’s coming. I’ve seen it in the probabilities, seen it plain as day.

Are all of you guardians just assuming that you are the sole protectors of our world? Might there be other worlds out there as well? We shall find out how you fare when it comes to defending this realm from external forces.

As I eagerly anticipate the upcoming premieres of Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, it’s apparent that we’re about to face a multitude of new threats lurking just beyond the horizon.

*Please note that ‘Thunderbolts’ is a fictional movie in this context.
